like Head and Shoulders (am I dating myself? Is that shampoo still around?). How is your skin otherwise? Have you checked internet sites?

My skin is fine, I haven't broken out for years. Kinda oily sometimes though I guess.

you might have psoriasis, and shoudl consider scheduling an appt w/ a dermatologist . . . do you notice an occurence of plaque-like rashes on the rest of your person? if so, i have some terrific steroidal creams that are very effective and won't stink up a football stadium. i will e-mail them to you, pronto, if you'd like

when i was child my mother decided that smothering your scalp w/ a mixture of lemon and vinegar can alleviate symptoms for a while — though it stings like bloody hell — before you can find some Rx-strength OTC shampoo to finally suppress the symptoms.

I don't have rashes so I dont think the steroidals will apply.

But RX shampoo sounds like a great idea.

Yeah I did the vinegar thing but it made me stink no matter how long I washed it out. I decided the stink was worse than the flakes themselves.

7. Check with a dermitologist

It could be Psoriasis - your body basically rejecting a portion of your skin, an environmentally based allergic reaction, a vitamin D deficiency, or fungal infection.

If "Head and shoulders" doesn't work, they'll generally recommend a coal-tar shampoo or some sort of perscription cream - or as in my hubby's case, to shave the head.

In my case, I find that if I shampoo regularly with a rosemary oil based shampoo that actually has the oil in it, not just the "essence", I don't have a dandruff problem unless I'm seriously stressed.

21. you know, funny thing is

i'm sort of a shut-in myself. chalk it up perhaps to very, very, very mild agoraphobia . . . also my mother suffers from eczema herself, but she takes better care of herself in her age so the symptoms are well controlled.

a vitamin D deficiency is quite likely my case too. thanks for starting this thread!

The shampoos I've used don't touch it, though the stuff I've used is mostly cheaper store brands. I pick up the tegrin and derexol and shudder at the price, but I'm biting the bullet and getting the expensive stuff too see if it works.

It works for me, and the bottle lasted me a year. Use it every day until your dandruff clears up and then you only have to use it once or twice a week.

(skin that tends to be oily and lack of sunlight) it sounds like it could be seborrheic dermatitis.

I've got it and I use Nizoral shampoo once a week, which keeps it under control. Also, I try to shampoo every day.

Dermatitis is pretty common and doctors say it is caused by a type of yeast that is present on everyone's scalp that tends to get a little out of control on some people for what ever reason. Too much information?

I have seborrheic dermatitis, and the dandruff shampoos only work for a little while. Tea tree oil shampoo is keeping it under control right now. I use it every day because my hair is very oily.

Re Kidney Stone: After 12 hours of pain it finally subsided. But it didn't come out. I think it may be lodged. In which case, if it hurts again, I will go to the hospital and force them to remove it.

No human alive should have to go through that kind of pain.

19. Nexxus has a good dandruff shampoo

I like it much better than Head and Shoulders and the other non-prescription brands. It's mild and has a nice scent.

Some salons carry it and you can find it at mall stores like "Trade Secrets"

It's more expensive then most of the other brands though.
