Am I her bitch?
My mother in law gave me and my husband 2/3rds of the money for our new car, mainly because she had already given my husband's brother the same amount for a new car. I will be the main driver of our new car. Am I now her bitch? Do I belong to her?

1. NO
However, I would inject that a modicum of gratitude is called for.

;)

9. You are in control.
I repeat. Be grateful and return the favor twice over, for eternity.

But do not ever, EVER, be anybody's bitch.

2. I am *really* wary of things like that.

And I never understand it--if you're *giving* someone something, give it to them without being dumb about it.

You're not her bitch (after all, your husband is her son and he can deal with the car as he likes including letting you drive it mostly) but she may *act* like you are--and that, I find really hard to deal with, so I try very hard not to take things/gifts from others. (Unless they're DU stars :toast: )

Even if she's nice about it, I'd still feel like I owed her. I don't like that feeling.

3. Set up a "save your life" situation
For example: While visiting her house pretend to smell gas and go into the kitchen. Tell her she must have left the gas on on the stove and you turned it off. Any time she brings up the car money just remind her that you saved her life.

I "own" a lot of people from pulling those kind of things off. :)
