50. You're right; it doesn't
But I think in such friendships it's the younger person who's mature for their age — or maybe "open-minded" is a better way to put it. Especially if it's an older man and a younger woman. Certainly, an older man would want to be friends with a younger woman as she makes him feel virile. Even if the relationship is Platonic, it's still good for a man's ego to know a young woman appreciates him.

It's harder for me to imagine what interest a 30-year-old woman would have in a 49-year-old man. Wisdom, perhaps? Experience?

52. I develop friendships
because I connect with a person, no matter how old the other one is. I am not thinking about what I can get from the other one or what I can give to them. It will show with the time.

53. That's not what I meant
I meant... aw, never mind; I know the answer. If people are interesting, that defies age.

I was wondering what you'd find interesting about someone 19 years your senior, not what you could get out of or give to the relationship.

I have an online friend who's 22. I feel like her much-older brother.

This is what fascinates me so about Europe: so much history. And Europeans seem to embrace their history so much more than Americans do theirs.

But did you know that Goethe wasn't even in the lineup when the German philosophers played football against the Greek philosophers?

This was the German lineup:

1 LEIBNITZ (G)
2 I. KANT
3 HEGEL
4 SCHOPENHAUER
5 SCHELLING
6 BECKENBAUER
7 JASPERS
8 SCHLEGEL
9 WITTGENSTEIN
10 NIETZSCHE
11 HEIDEGGER

69. According to the announcer, he was a surprise
as a midfielder, too. :7

It was a Monty Python sketch written and performed for one of two episodes on German television. I think it's one of their most creative, especially how the match ended:

Archimedes out to Socrates, Socrates back to Archimedes, Archimedes out to Heraclitus, he beats Hegel... Heraclitus a little flick, here he comes on the far post, Socrates is there, Socrates heads it in! Socrates has scored! The Greeks are going mad, the Greeks are going mad! Socrates scores, got a beautiful cross from Archimedes!

The Germans are disputing it! Hegel is arguing that the reality is merely an a priori adjunct of non-naturalistic ethics, Kant via the categorical imperative is holding that ontologically it exists only in the imagination, and Marx is claiming it was offside.

I absolutely adore that.

Wow, I gotta get some sleep.

80. start
pity posts like I do. Those stay up. The other I started this morning dropped like stones. That is why I started the pity thread.
And you know I always answer your threads when I see them

82. I started one

i'll answer your other post here & kick it there; but i have a friend in the theater. he is at 35 two years younger than i am, but he recently had a stroke, of all things, and we thought he just scheduled some time off (boy did he ever) until my friend seen his partner @ the store and was told that he would "be in a wheelchair for some time". to his credit, his partner is staying with him, and they are building an access ramp up to their house so i'm here to tell'ya i hear'ya and ya'just never know
