1. Only if you have a choice
Maybe being a lawyer is over-rated. But I don't want someone telling me I can't be one.

2. The problem I have is that some mouth breathing, knuckle dragging,
pinheaded neandethals are actually considering amending the United States Constitution to keep me and other gay people from having that option.

3. Amending the Constitution to make gays 2nd class citizens
That will truly be a dark, dark day in US history should it ever occur. The parallels to nazi Germany and the Reich's gradual removal of Jewish rights are truly frightening...

12. Let's not forget that alongside the jew, Homosexuals were rounded up
and exterminated as well as gypsies and Eastern Europeans. As a matter of fact, most gays tried to pass as jews, because in the camp heirarchy, it was better to be Jewish than gay. If you haven't seen it yet, the play (and movie) Bent is a real eye opener.

6. I am not that concerned if they change all the laws and stuff
Edited on Fri Nov-21-03 08:05 PM by La_Serpiente
but when right-wingers said "Constiutional Amendment", I freaked out. Then I thought to myself, "Could they really do it? Could they really pass an amendment?"

I have this strong feeling that if it makes it pass Congress, it is over. Too many states would give into the measure. Yes, it truly would be one of the darkest days in American history. When a minority is truly discrimnated against and it will be engrained in the Constitution.

Could they do it? They passed alcohol prohibition fast...what could stop them this time.

8. I can see the entire South ratifying this.
How many states are those?

And the West...Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado.

3/4 of the states need to pass this.

Just keep in mind. How many red states are there?

9. A few more
Pennsylvannia, Idaho, and possibly Nevada would ratify this easily. Add in the Dakotas and Montana. The only solid holdouts would be NY, CA, MASS, NJ, CT, VT, WA, and OR. Everything else would be in play.

7. I swear, the furor from the wingnuts about this
makes me want to marry a woman just to piss 'em off.

WHY IN THE HELL CAN'T PEOPLE MIND THEIR OWN GODDAM BUSINESS? Why do they have to go around telling other people who they can and cannot marry? What earthly business does the government have interfering in people's relationships in the first f@cking place?

Damn busybodies. IT ISN'T ANYONE ELSE'S BUSINESS WHO MARRIES WHOM, UNLESS YOU'RE PLANNING ON HAVING SEX WITH THEM YOURSELF.

13. Great editorial (no link-sorry) comparing not letting gays marry amounting
to special rights for gays--no alimony, no nasty divorce settlements, etc. Writer (LA Times) concluded that gays should be allowed to marry--make 'em suffer like the rest of us!
