I enjoy re-reading books and re-watching movies - but only if they were very good from the start.

Casablanca
Wizard of Oz
A Christmas Story
any Monty Python movie, especially Life of Brian
12 Monkeys
Amadeus
Beauty and the Beast
The Big Lebowski
Mystery Men
Blazing Saddles

I can quote whole scenes from any of the above and quite a few others.

It's a Wonderful Life (and I KNOW I'm not the only one on DU who has done this)
Casablanca (see above)
The Ref
Born Romantic
The Lion in Winter
Much Ado about Nothing
The Wizard of Oz
Enchanted April
Persuasion (1995 version)
Sense and Sensibility (1995 version)
Pride and Prejudice (1940 version)
Peter's Friends (Yes, I'm a Kenneth Branagh fan)
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

And being a baby boomer, I probably saw all the things that were aired yearly in the NYC area, such as March of the Wooden Soldiers, more than five times.

As for Key Largo, Stagecoach (1939), Hobson's Choice, The Best Years of Our Lives, A Midwinter's Tale, Crazy from the Heart, and To Have and Have Not, I'm not sure of the figures for each, but more than several times for each.

On edit: Forgot A Christmas Story, Arsenic and Old Lace, Young Frankenstein, and The Music Man, and perhaps Gigi.

27. Pretty much everything in my boyfriend's video collection
When we lived in different cities I'd come visit and I'd be stuck in his apartment while he was at work.
He didn't have cable, he didn't have a computer, his TV got crap reception, he didn't have a dvd player/netflix, and he didn't have a lot of books so I watched

Goodfellas
Boogie Nights
Scarface
The Royal Tennenbaums
A bunch of Russ Meyer movies
and the one Mystery Science Theater video that I left at his house (I think it was Mitchell)

Over. And over. And over again.

Lately all I watch over and over is my Bill Hicks dvd, and that Bob Dylan special from a few months ago that I taped.

Undoubtedly several Ann Margret flicks when I was a teenager. Here stuff at that time wasn't bad but I found the old '60s movies on late night TV and they were wild. First thing I checked for when reviewing the Sunday TV book in those years.

The first one: on every bloody Christmas on TV in the UK.

The second one: because I am a Trekkie. I like Star Trek.

The third: because my son likes Spongebob. The DVD has been re-burnt so that the movie is on constant repeat. But then that's the case with a number of DVDs for him.

Mark.

99. '0h, I don't know about that great mind thingy, but there are
things in those two flicks that tickle my fancy to the bending end. I very rarely ever watch a film twice.

Lili Von Shtupp (Madeline Kahn),doing Marlene Dietrich is insanely hilarious.

To finish her sleepy act, she sings and yawns:

I'm tired, tired of playing the game. Ain't it a freakin' shame. I'm so...let's face it. Everything below the waist is ka-put.

Hi, handsome, is that a ten-gallon hat - or are you just enjoying the show?

Ooh, a wed wose. How womantic!

That's all I won't go on....'Tis indeed hysterical!

90. such a sad premise: Boo, an intelligent child ruined by a cruel father...
is one of the book’s most important mockingbirds; he is also an important symbol of the good that exists within people. Despite the pain that Boo has suffered, the purity of his heart rules his interaction with the children. In saving Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell, Boo proves the ultimate symbol of good.

That is about it... And the only reason I watched those so many times is that people reported audio problems with all of them. I was looking for a solution.. I found it.. Popular movies have more people complaining about shit they know nothing about. I was a bit of a dick so I would drop it into bypass after being bitched at. And I would make it really fucking cold. Most projectionist are total pricks, I would avoid making them mad.

132. 1984
I just watched 1984 for the 5th time. There also was a great soundtrack album by the Eurythmics.

In the beginning of the movie, the enemy of the Party, Goldstein is shown on a big screen before a crowd. Goldstein is actually trying to tell the people the truth - that they are constantly being lied to by the Party, and that the real evil people in power are hidden from them. Goldstein tells them that the Party is maintaining a constant state of war in order to better control them. The people are so busy screaming at the screen in hatred that they don't hear any of Goldstein's warnings about what is really happening. (Not that there's any relevance to today.)

I can watch it over and over aghain and always find a new insight. IMO it is the best movie in the history of cinema. Kubrick is as daring as a filmmaker has ever been in asking people to identify with Alex over the state taking a person's free will, even when the person is as vile as Alex.

141. Amadeus, Holy Grail, Blazing Saddles, Duck Soup
Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 10:22 AM by new_beawr
Animal Crackers, A Night at the Opera, The Producers, The Big Lebowski, Babe, Sleeper, M*A*S*H, A Christmas Story, The Cocoanuts, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence, The Wizard of Oz (haven't we all?), A Man for all Seasons, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre AND The Ten Commandments.....

I saw Amadeus and Holy Grail at the Movie Theatre at least 5 times during their initial runs. Holy Grail I saw six times straight at the Outer Circle in DC back when they would let you sit and see the movie multiple times.....

144. Chinatown, "Bringing up Baby" "To Kill a Mockingbird" "Groundhog Day."
In the last case I feel like I'm watching the same movie over and over and over and over and over and over.

Finally I'll get it right.

145. Being a very serious movie whore...
there are very few films I haven't seen multiple times, many even dozens of times.

I will therefore give you a short list of the rare movies I have only watched once:

Sid & Nancy (brilliant movie, totally depressing)
Glory (ditto)
The Yearling (ditto)
Bambi (ditto)
