Do you love your laptop? Then tell me where you bought it!
I'm looking for a new laptop and all I know for sure is that it's not gonna be a @#$! Dell. Do you have a laptop you love? Tell me why, and who made it!

TIA,

The Plaid Adder

1. I have a Sony Vaio
Love it love it love it...

Even though it is considered a desktop replacement (meaning I can't get an adapter to plug in on an airplane).

2. A Compaq Presario 900Z from Dell.
My wife bought it for me as a present a few years ago. I love it! It
has a ton of memory, sleek design, with a cd/dvd rom.

3. Get the best deal you can at the time
Laptops don't last as long as desktops, so get as much bang for you buck as possible.

I used to do warranty work for a couple of companies, and, Toshiba is the best I've worked with, heard about, read about, supported, etc. Just fab.

5. I love my Laptop. It's a Toshiba from Costco.
Costco has a fabulous return policy. 6 months no questions asked. It's also a good bargain.

Bad news. Had to write a check for it, as Costco only takes American Express.

6. back when they had gateway stores in Indy
I got a pc (updated from my mac - too hard to keep working across platforms); and a year and a half later I got a gateway laptop. Both are going strong (the pc is now over 4 with no problems.)

7. I was saving up for one of the new G4 Mac laptops this summer ...
But I ended up buying a replacement G3 on eBay instead, and sending the balance of the money to the Katrina relief efforts. It's a late-90s machine, but one thing I like is the swappable modules (if your CD, DVD, floppy, or Zip drive breaks, you can just pull it out and substitute another one).

It should hold me for another couple of years ... and even after, I plan on keeping one around to serve as a "bridge" (it'll read all my old floppies and my new CD-ROMs).

11. iBooks are indeed great
Edited on Mon Nov-28-05 08:49 PM by Awsi Dooger
I'm posting this on one, an iBook G4 that I bought new at Christmas last year. I got it via Amazon with a $100 rebate.

Plus there was an additional $100 rebate available if you purchased an Apple computer and Epson printer at the same time. I looked at all the printers available and noticed one of them had an extra $80 in rebates available through Epson. So I got that one, an Epson RX500 All-in-One, for $40 instead of the selling price of $220. Most vendors were selling it for $250. Free shipping on both the iBook and printer.

The iBook is fabulous. The only minor problem I've had is a couple of the keys have faded somewhat. I went to the Apple store and they replaced them quickly and without hassle. But this keyboard is not great by Apple laptop standards, certainly not close to the keyboard of my old Powerbook 1400 from the late '90s.
