Aww...an awkward family moment this holiday weekend!
My BF put his 3-year-old daughter, H, on the phone to talk to her mother. BF and ex have a good relationship when they're not living together, and they both want to make sure they both stay involved in their daughter's life. They both have other SO's and are OK with that (everyone's met everyone, in fact). The conversation went thusly (I was within earshot but in another room):

H: "Hi, Mama."
(conversation ensues)
BF, whispering into H's ear: "Tell Mama you love her."
H, into phone: "You love her!"
BF: "Hee. No, say to Mama, "I love you!"
H: "I love you Mama! I love Stacie, too!"

Upon hearing my name, I go into the room in time to see my BF fumbling around with the phone, "well, OK then, I'll talk to you later." I do not know how his ex responded, but I can guess (out loud: "well, that's nice sweetheart, I love you too, I'll see you tomorrow!" in her head: "Who does that bitch Stacie think she is?").

That was a simultaneous "aww..." and "eep!" moment for me...

1. Ahhh yes, the never ending faux-pas of kiddies
Ruby (to her dad): "So, mom got married, but you're still my dad."

Josh: "Yes Ruby, I know that."

Ruby: "Well I just wanted you to know that even if mom doesn't love you, you're still my dad."

Josh (laughing): "Yes..."

Ruby: "Yeah, mom doesn't love you, but I still do...'cos you're my dad"

This goes on for like 5 minutes... :D

2. "You and I have the same Papa, Stacie!"
I knew what she meant (I think. I hope.), but still...

She's recently taken to punching herself in the head and going "ow ow OW ow OW!" in a tune we can't quite place.

4. Yeah, you gotta love kids
My 5 yr old daughter asked me in front of a bunch of friends "Why are you and Mommie separated?" because I was downstairs and mommie was upstairs. Awkward looks all around...

or maybe she just reads the future...
