Poll question: Please choose some Q names for tropical storms and hurricanes
Edited on Sun Nov-27-05 12:22 PM by NNadir
Now that global climate change is here, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) finds itself running out of hurricane names and resorting to alpha, beta, gamma, and so on.

Last week, Hurricane Delta passed through the central Atlantic, thankfully having few effects beyond obviating the shortage of hurricane names.

I think we at DU can help the WMO be better prepared in future years.

In their wisdom, the WMO has ignored Q names for hurricanes.

We have already helped them with Z:

We have helped with Y:

We have helped with X:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=4179858 but still hurricanes continue forming. Indeed the waters of the tropics are still warm enough to form even more hurricanes, although the season is said to be officially over.

As our atmosphere collapses, the fellows and fellowettes over at the World Meteorological Organization are very busy and apparently have no time for naming things. Let's be good folks and help them out. Vote on or suggest Q names.

4. I know, that's why I specifically added the Family Guy thing.
I'd hate to name a hurricane after the mess in Iraq. I wouldn't want Mother Nature trying to live up to or beyond what's happened over there in terms of intensity and destruction.

12. QiQi
is a Chinese name pronounced Chichi. I'm pretty sure there are some Arabic names that start with Q but I'm not sure we want to go there.

:-)
