edited to add - and we both ended up in California! Cue the Twilight Zone music...

8. Right now at this moment?
Fairly heavy opiates because of the unrelenting pain of my disability. (Which is why I'm sometimes a little weird.)

Smoke pot occassionally. Usually after a hot and heavy date and we're about to get down to do the nasty.

Most of my serious boyfriends have been speedfreaks, so I've done more than my share of crank.

But right now, totally clean. Nothing that's not prescription.

Khash. (500 mikes of acid sounds good though, got any?)

31. It is habit forming, but it generally works for me.
Not always though.

I confessed to my doctor that I was concerned about the habit. He however more or less said it was no big deal. The fact of the matter he said, is that I don't sleep much, and that there was no reason to be "catholic" about it.

Those are his exact words. I think I'll take an Ambien now. It's getting late.

37. I took that for awhile, Dr. said it's NOT habit-forming, but
you can get habituated so that it doesn't work anymore.

However, I felt like it was habit-forming at least psychologically. I'd take a half of a tablet and it worked. Then I took a half of a half of a tablet, and that worked. Then I felt I couldn't sleep unless I took a half of a half of a half, and the doctor told me with that amount, it was completely psychological -- it wasn't enough to do anything. So I was sleeping on my own anyway.

42. There is nothing psychological about it for me.
However I have always been an insomniac.

There are two kinds of insomniacs: Those for whom sleep doesn't matter and those who cannot sleep but feel that they need sleep.

I am unfortunately in the second category.

Once when I decided to kick Ambien, I stayed awake for 3 days. Eventually I fell asleep, but I was in an awful state.

In my youth, before Ambien was invented, I once drove solo from Las Vegas, Nevada to Long Island, New York without sleeping, a trek that took well over 4 days. I stopped to try to sleep on the way, but didn't manage it. I wasn't using any drugs whatsoever other than coffee.

38. That's horrible.
I had a housemate that attempted suicide with Thorazine.

We saved his life, but he killed himself anyway, this time by jumping off a bridge.

He was a schizophrenic. When he was sane he was one of the nicest guys in the world, funny, smart and talented.

It was more than thirty years ago, but it is still very, very sad.

If you have problems down the road with Resistance, you can go to Fuzeon. It has a completely different mechanism than the others. It's injectable, and that's a bummer from what I've heard, but it works. You can minimize resistance, as I'm sure you know, by being pretty faithful to your dosing.

May your good response continue.

55. Strattera and Lamictal... beware.
Beware of strattera. It gave me a temporary boost in metabolism AND appetite suppression. I've lost 30+ pounds over the last 6 months, and given how I can barely run without feeling like I've sprained an ankle or walk a short distance without my knees recoiling in pain, I've lost more than just fatty tissue.

I've only just started Lamictal for depression (though a similar mood stabilizer helped me far more than any actual antidepressant ever could). Unfortunately, Lamictal also has appetite suppression as a side-effect.

Time will tell. I may as well play along; they have a point. :)

66. Unfortunately doctors don't hand them out for that
Except to Rush Limpballs and other rich SOB's who can doctor-shop or othwise wheedle prescriptions for phony ailments. Anyway, I don't want to end up addicted--I have enough problems.

Son: Paxil, Trazodone occasionally
Daughter (bipolar): Celexa, Risperdal, generic Tegritol
Mrs Ironflange: Paxil, also Trazodone now and then
Me: Effexor XR, Lipitor, Altace, NPH insulin (I win)

99. I was given Tylenol with codeine after surgery.
My doctor eventually changed it to straight codeine and put me on a liver detoxifier, since he said it was the Tylenol he was worried about. It can cause liver problems when taken for too long...:-(

101. Yuck. Well, I'm not taking any pain meds any more, thank goodness.
My constant philosophy with medications is to take them Only when the situation Absolutely cannot be borne, otherwise.

I allow my immune system to handle much of its own affairs, and it's the stronger for it.

But ya' gotta love when they give you pain meds, and then tell you NOT to take 'em "unless needed". Um...didn't you think I needed them and that's WHY you gave 'em to me??? Um, um, um. :)

103. These days, I don't even take over-the-counter painkillers.
But I was grateful to have them, when I needed them. And you're absolutely right. I recently found a tiny envelope of mystery pills in my purse. I finally remembered that the dentist gave them to me, ages ago, if I needed them for pain. And I totally forgot about them, until now.:-)
