2. That's freaking robbery.
Two good players for next-to-nothing. The rich get richer.

4. And when they turn into something good.....
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 11:53 PM by Thom Little
.....the Marlins turn right around and trade them away for more prospects.

Face it. Half of MLB is just a farm system for the rich teams. Young guys come up to places like Florida, Pittsburgh, and Kansas City. They develop into good players. Once they get good it means they're going to be gone soon because the rich teams are the only ones who can afford the fat contracts. Half the teams in the Major Leagues have no other purpose in life than developing players for the rich teams while still making a few bucks for their owners on the side.

There is no competitiveness in baseball. That's why I gave up on it years ago.

8. exactly
it's sad but true, it's nice that we're actually trying to keep Cabera and Willis, but that's the point, those two, becket, pierre, and Castillo were supposed to be the core of the team, now they're gonna trade them all away

13. No competitiveness?
What about last season's NL West? There was fierce competition to see who could suck the least.

6. Hanley Ramierez is a top tier prospect
And Lowell looks like he is washed up.

Beckett is an injury waiting to happen. I would approve of that trade if I were the Marlins. I can't believe they got rid of Lowell and his bloated salary!

7. Lowell yes...too much money, and he's aging.
It's hard to give up on a guy who shut the Yankees down in a World Series though, regardless of his injury history. He's still only about 25. Imagine him haunting you for the next 10 years, like Smoltz does the Tigers.

10. How did you know I liked the Tigers
:-)

Hanley Ramirez is going to be good, though. Perhaps as good as Beckett. He is probably a top 3 infield prospect.

The way Beckett throws, I don't see his career lasting long.

As for Lowell, the Sox did them a favor for taking him off the Marlins hands. They were trying to dump Lowell for free a few months ago.

11. Don't remind me of that idiotic trade in '87
I was a Tiger fan and still followed baseball somewhat. John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander, brilliant. Just because they were in the heat of a pennant race with Toronto and needed a veteran pitcher. Big deal, they won the division then got taken out routinely by Minnesota and Atlanta was left with a premier player for almost 20 years

12. Hey the Red Sox traded Bagwell for Larry Andersen.
My favorite crappy trade Ernie Broglio for Lou Brock. That occurred before I was born, and I still chuckle. Lou Brock was my first favorite Cardinal. There's a reason the Cubs stink. ;)

15. How about this for a real stinker of a trade
Nolan Ryan for Jim Fergosi...yeah the Mets really dropped the ball on that one

9. I agree
Has Beckett ever had a season where he has not been on the DL at some point? I really think the Marlins got the better end of this deal. I'm just glad Beckett is out of the NL east because when he is healthy he does bring the heat

5. I don't follow baseball
But this seems extraordinarily stupid to me. My only image of Josh Beckett is throwing sick pitches that the Yankees had no chance to hit. I realize that was a couple of years ago but I'm sure he was very young, and I thought the type of ace your franchise tried to keep for the duration of his career.

Still, hard for me to knock a team that's won two titles. The Marlins need their own pure baseball stadium and apply the tag Miami, not this Florida crap. Let Pensacola get their own team.
