Poll question: Does this song make the artist a pedophile?
Love you so much, can’t count all the ways
I’d die for you girl, and all they can say is
He’s not your kind

They never get tired of puttin’ me down
And I never know when I come around
What I’m gonna find
Don’t let them make up your mind
Don’t you know

Girl, you’ll be a woman soon
Please come take my hand
Girl, you’ll be a woman soon
Soon you’ll need a man

I’ve been misunderstood for all of my life
But what they’re sayin’, girl, just cuts like a knife
The boy’s no good

Well, I finally found what I’ve been looking for
But if they get the chance, they’ll end it for sure
Sure they would
Baby, I’ve done all I could
It’s up to you

Girl, you’ll be a woman soon
Please come take my hand
Girl, you’ll be a woman soon
Soon you’ll need a man

:wow:

1. 16 will get you 20!!!
THE HOLLIES lyrics - "Sweet Little Sixteen"

(Berry)

They're really rockin' in Boston
Pittsburgh, PA
Deep in the heart of Texas
Way down in 'Frisco Bay
All over St Louie
Down in New Orleans
All the cats going dancing
Sweet Little Sixteen

Sweet little sixteen
Just gotta have
Tight dresses and lipstick
Framed autographs
By tomorrow morning
She'll have to change the trend
Being sweet little sixteen
Back in class again

2. Or Gary Puckett and the Union Gap
Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl
With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe
You're old enough
To give me Love
And now it hurts to know the truth, Oh,
Beneath your perfume and make-up
You're just a baby in disguise
And though you know
That it is wrong to be
Alone with me
That come on look is in your eyes, Oh,
So hurry home to your mama
I'm sure she wonders where you are
Get out of here
Before I have the time
To change my mind
'Cause I'm afraid we'll go too far, Oh,
Young girl

7. Same here. The N. Diamond one doesn't strike me like that in
the least, just a matter of rich girl/poor boy, that soon won't have to be bound by their parents wishes.

11. Especially if you consider their next record to be a sequel...
This Girl Is A Woman Now

This girl walked in dreams,
Playing in a world of her own.
This girl was a child,
Existing in a playground of stone.
Then one night her world was changed,
Her life and dreams were rearranged,
And she would never be the same again.

This girl is a woman now,
She's learned how to give.
This girl is a woman now,
She's found out what it's all about,
And she's learning, learning to live.

This girl tasted love
As tender as the gentle dawn.
She cried a single tear,
A teardrop that was sweet and warm.
Our hearts told us we were right,
And on that sweet and velvet night,
A child had died,
A woman had been born.

This girl is a woman now,
She's learned how to give.
This girl is a woman now,
She's found out what it's all about.
And she's learning, learning, learning to live.

Might I only add that this was one hell of a song to have on the "Top 40" at the precise time one was hitting puberty and experiencing a first (and, sadly, unrequited) crush?

10. ...or Jefferson Airplane...
I oughta get goin'
I shouldn't stay here and love you
More than I do
'Cause you're so much younger than I am
Come up the years
Come up the years
And love me, love me, love me

A younger girl keeps hangin' around
One of the loveliest I've ever found
Blowin' my mind, stealin' my heart
Somebody help me 'fore I fall apart

I oughta get goin'
I shouldn't stay here and love you
More than I do
'Cause you're so much younger than I am
Come up the years
Come up the years
And love me, love me, love me

The things she's doin' keep turnin' me on
And I've been happy to go right along
I know it's time that I said good-bye
I know I can't leave no matter how hard I try

I oughta get goin'
I shouldn't stay here and love you
More than I do
'Cause you're so much younger than I am
Come up the years
Come up the years
And love me, love me, love me.......

3. I think "Woman" in this sense is saying that they're close in age, but
soon, she'll be old enough to make her own decisions.

4. Not as dubious, IMHO, as this Elvis nugget.
Little sister, don't you
Little sister, don't you
Little sister, don't you kiss me once or twice
Then say it's very nice
And then you run

Little sister, don't you
Do what your big sister done

Well, I dated your big sister
And took her to a show
I went for some candy
Along came Jim Dandy
And they snuck right out of the door

Ev'ry time I see your sister
Well she's got somebody new
She's mean and she's evil
Like that old Boll Weevil
Guess I'll try my luck with you

Well, I used to pull your pigtails
And pinch your turned-up nose
But you been a growin'
And baby, it's been showin'
From your head down to your toes

Little sister, don't you
Little sister, don't you
Little sister, don't you kiss me once or twice
Then say it's very nice
And then you run

Little sister, don't you
Do what your big sister done

It would be pretty creepy if the same artists sang this one now, but, at the time, it was a big hit!:D

9. How about this one?
Sitting round singing songs 'til the night turns into day
Used to sing on the mountains but the mountains washed away
Now I'm singing all my songs to the girl who won my heart
She is only three years old and it's a real fine way to start.

12. How about . . .
(original by Junior Wells, covered by Van Morrison, the Grateful Dead, the Yardbirds, and quite a few others)

Good morning little schoolgirl, can I come home with you
Tell your moma and your papa, I'm a little schoolboy too
Come on now pretty baby, I just can't help myself
You're so young and pretty, I don't need nobody else
Good morning little schoolgirl, can I come home with you
Don't you hear me crying

I'm gonna leave you baby about the break of day
On account of the way you treat me, I got to stay away
Come on now pretty baby, I told you to come on home
You know I love you baby, I gotta get you all alone
Good morning little schoolgirl, can I come home with you
Can't you hear me crying

I'm gonna buy me an airplane, fly all over your town
Tell everybody baby, Lord know you're fine
Come on now pretty baby, I just can't help myself
You're so young and pretty, I don't need nobody else
Good morning little schoolgirl, can I come home with you
Can't you hear me crying

Good morning little schoolgirl, can I come home with you
Good morning little schoolgirl, can I come home with you
Tell your moma and your papa, I'm a schoolboy too
I'm a schoolboy too
Hey, I'm a schoolboy too
I want to be your chauffeur
I want to ride your little machine
I want to be your chauffeur
I want to ride with your little machine
I want to put a tiger, baby
I want to put a tiger, baby
I want to put a tiger, baby
Hey in your sweet little tank
Hey baby now, yes I do
Huh, oh yes I do now
Hey, I gotta
Hey, I gotta come on home with you
Tell your mother
Baby, tell your papa
Tell your mom and your papa
Hey, I'm a schoolboy too
Hey, hey, I'm a schoolboy too
Huh, huh, I'm a schoolboy too
Huh, I wanna take your company
Hey, I wanna be your company

13. Hmm.

Bar Owner Steven Kientz Wanted For Child Molestation
By Phil Buehler
Detectives with the Crimes Against Children unit investigate
child molestations. And tops on their list is 64 year old Steven Kientz.
"It's not somebody that we can feel safe with, especially with our
kids out on the street. It's somebody who needs to be caught,"
said detective Michael Canizales.

Sheriff detectives say Kientz sexually molested the
five year old daughter of a family friend.
When he was first arrested and interviewed, authorities
didn't think they had enough evidence to charge him. Kientz
was released from custody. But after further interviews with the
victim and her family, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

"This is a person who needs to be off the street. The victim is
a six year old now. At the time of the incident she was five years old," said Canizales.

What troubles detectives most is that Kientz has plenty of income,
some of it coming from this midtown bar. He also owns property in
Mexico where authorities think he could be staying. "He does have
a substantial amount of income that he can live off of. For him to
take off or become to his whereabouts are unknown is not good," said Canizales.

Some employees at the Golden Nugget Tavern weren't even aware of Kientz's legal trouble.
They were under the impression he was out of town on business and not due
back until next month. Detectives hope to catch their fugitive much sooner.

14. What about Paul Anka's "Diana"?
Something a little odd about this one...

I'm so young and you're so old
This, my darling, I've been told
I don't care just what they say
'Cause forever I will pray
You and I will be as free
As the birds up in the trees
Oh, please stay by me, Diana

Thrills I get when you hold me close
Oh, my darling, you're the most
I love you but do you love me
Oh, Diana, can't you see
I love you with all my heart
And I hope we will never part
Oh, please stay by me, Diana

Oh, my darlin', oh, my lover
Tell me that there is no other
I love you with my heart
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh don't you know I love you, love you so
Only you can take my heart
Only you can tear it apart
When you hold me in your loving arms
I can feel you giving all your charms
Hold me, darling, hold me tight
Squeeze me baby with-a all your might
Oh, please stay by me, Diana
Oh, please, Diana
Oh, please, Diana
Oh, please, Diana

16. or Benny Mardones
Into the Night

She's just sixteen years old
leave her alone, they say.
Separated by fools
who don't know what love is yet,
but i want you to know

If i could fly
I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
and show you a love
like you've never seen - ever seen...

It's like having a dream
where nobody has a heart.
It's like having it all
and watching it fall apart
and I would wait till the end
of time for you
and do it again, it's true...
I can't measure my love
there's nothing to compare it to
but I want you to know..................................

17. Don't forget Kip Winger's love for the underage...."She's only 17"
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 11:24 AM by WeRQ4U
saw sparks fly, from the corner of my eye
And when I turned, it was love at first sight
I said please excuse me, I didn't catch your name
Oh it'd be a shame not to see you again

And just when I thought she was comin' to my door
She whispered sweet and brought me to the floor, she said

I'm only seventeen, but I'll show you love like you've never seen
She's only seventeen, daddy says she's too young, but she's old enough for me

Come to my place, we can talk it over, oh everything going down in your head
She said take it easy, I need some time, time to work it out, to make you mine

And just when I thought she was comin' to my door
She whispered sweet and brought me to the floor, she said

I'm only seventeen, you ain't seen love, ain't seen nothing like me
She's only seventeen, seventeen

(Solo)

Such a bad girl, loves to work me overtime
Feels good (ha), dancin' close to the borderline
She's a magic mountain, she's a leather glove
Oh she's my soul, it must be love

She's only seventeen, still she gives me love, like I've never seen
She's only seventeen, daddy says she's too young, but she's old enough for me
She's everything I need, daddy says she's too young
But she's old enough, old enough for me
---------

Note: Kip was about 30 at the time.

18. Sweet Little Sixteen...
Sixteen candles...

Now, "be a woman" could be interpretted as hit puberty (not good) or reach majority, 18 or 21?? (better)

Lots of people refer to young women as girls so it doesn't necessarily mean he was singing to an underage person.
