Help!!! Computer people!!!
There is a glitch in a program I use for work. Every time I access this program it attaches a file to my hard drive that slows my computer down. When I remove it and empty the recycle bin it attaches itself again after 30 seconds or so when I go back to the program. It continues to do so as long as the program is open. Any thoughts on how to rid myself of this file.

It is called picklistderef.out.

TIA

~Laura

1. Sounds like a virus to me.
Have you done a virus scan lately? How about a spyware scan? Try spybot. It's a free downloadable program.

7. It's not a virus. This computer is locked up tight with firewalls, and
also gets scanned with spybot and adaware once a week. But thanks for answering. :hi:

8. Wish it were that easy. It's a glitch in my software. The company's aware
of the glitch, but their fix (delete it) is only temporary. :(

4. No Google hits
Have you looked at other machines this program is on? Is it proprietary and private, or can you name it? Has anybody other than you used the program on this machine? Has anybody, including you, changed the program options recently?

Although it may be a virus, I'd be doubtful myself. Of course do the virus scan the other posters suggest, but talk to other people who use the program also. They may know something pertinent.

10. It gets virus scanned twice a week, and is a secure connection with
firewalls and all. (computer geek friend put it together) The company acknowledges the glitch, but their fix is temporary. I found out about the glitch by searching msn.com when my system told me it couldn't open the program.

This is what I found. We had to update off of ACI 8.6.1 to accomodate new Fannie Mae forms for 2005 but that is it.

5. What's the 'program'?
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 10:20 PM by Breeze54
You didn't say what program it is or who installed the software.
Did your network mgr install the software (SW)?

Are you on a network/fileshare?

Is it an office program such as WORD or EXCEL or Visual Basic?

http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Programming/Visual_Basic_Components_A-G/Active_PickList.html

Active PickList control enables the user to add available
and selected capabilities to applications.
Use this control when you have a collection of strings to display available items and selected items.
Functionality mimics the standard Visual Basic listbox with added features.
Items can be added and removed much like a standard listbox,
yet you can specify which side to display items.

11. Not on a network. It's ACI 8.6.1, appraising software. Includes sketching,
mapping and floodmapping, along with signature card capacity. Picklist should be in the program file itself, but also reproduces itself and attaches to my C drive (harddrive) on its own. Sorry I wasn't more clear. The fix I was given from this webpage:

http://www.hdgroup.com/bb/index.php?s=d4f9bd529aec54c41096da346c37d4ec&showtopic=103

Is only temporary.

thanks :hi:

13. So, the next release will 'fix' the problem
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 11:02 PM by Breeze54
It happens!
Sounds like they're working on it!
so a search...
START/SEARCH /Files and folders/ picklistderef
or try just searching for 'picklist'
(make sure it's the same program)
and then delete them all!
It is probably installed in your registry
and that's why it re-installs.
But I'm not a programmer.
Just an out of work techie!

Good Luck!
