2. Prejudice
Pride goeth before a fall. Prejudice sticks around a lot longer.

5. Firth Was MUCH Hotter
than what's-his-face.

Come on. Getting out of that lake? Woo woo.

What's-his-face was still very good, though much younger. If anything, his Darcy was even more uptight than Firth's.

12. Hot Isn't Everything!
Okay, nevermind that.

There were previews for Firth's new flick (Nanny McPhee) shown before P & P for what it's worth.

7. Yeah, Absolutely
Prime time, even, not matinee.

This version was a more lively than the mini-series, and tons less pristine-looking than the typical Merchant-Ivory or other Austen remakes. For a period piece, it enjoyed being a film, if that makes sense.

9. Oooh, I want to see it
Unfortunately with my work schedule I'll have a hard time finding the time to see it in a theater. Perhaps a weekday matinee (which will be cheaper of course). I'll end up going alone, no doubt, as none of my friends will be interested. :-(

32. I thought it was brilliantly-done...
I know what you're saying about it "enjoying" being a film. It was relatively fast-paced rather than the frequent over-reverent solemness found in Masterpiece Theatre-style adaptations. More to the point, I've rarely seen a film with better use of the moving camera. One could almost describe the camera movements as being choreographed, following one character, then switching to another, then a third, then continuing on to pick up the first one again. At times, it felt almost like the audience was eavesdropping on the world created by Austen.

The last version was 10 years ago (unless you count Bridget Jones). Previously - 1940s? Not sure.

It's a good story.

11. i remember the last cinematic release
but by count, there have been at least two made for TV/PBS versions out since then (or maybe i'm confusing my Austen stories)

i had to read it back in high school and i found it a bore...I went to the video store and rented a copy, and that one was probably made in the early-mid 80s

15. This Was a Really Great Version
I went into the theatre prepared to hate it. I dug the 1995 version, but this was just a different animal altogether. I love how the Bennetts, as a whole, were portrayed in this movie. Big as life.

16. Yes, yes. I like Jane Austen too; I like period pieces
and that is just such a good version of the story. And it is a nice change from all the violence in "regular" films today

20. Nope
There was a P & P miniseries featuring the much-lauded Colin Firth and a very nice, wet, pair of trousers.

That series is still the best thing ever on TV.

There's that. There's also a young miss who runs away with a Leftenent, an obnoxious auntie, and a snooty vicar.

19. Does Mr. Darcy finally beat the ever loving shit out of Wickham?
They alluded to it in the A&E Miniseries when he shows up in london but cut away before he could unleash his Darcy-fu on the cad who spirited away that idiot Lydia.

not even alluded. This Darcy is a little lower in the testosterone department compared to that Darcy.

Lots of piano - very nice, though, very nice.

Not too much sepia at all. Maybe for one or two scenes.

33. Will I hate it as much as I think I will?
The previws really turned me off. Everyone was too pretty and breathless. P&P is all about subtext - not these Wuthering Heights looking characters.
