Only a week until "Black Friday"...
Edited on Fri Nov-18-05 06:12 AM by Err
Do any of you save your Christmas shopping until "Black Friday"? Or do you prefer to do it before/after the busiest shopping day of the year?

I started Christmas shopping in July. I'm almost done. Next Friday, I'm not leaving my house for anything, no matter how great the deals are!

1. I refuse to shop on Black Friday
I will likely do most of my shopping online this year...

I will also not be home on Black Friday...and am not going to deal with the crowds in SoCal.

6. I will never shop the day after Thanksgiving.
For many years in my teens and 20's I worked retail and worked that day every year. Since those days, I just can't bring myself to go out that day. Maybe it's the crowds and watching people nearly frantic over attempts to get something for next to nothing. Standing in lines to wait for a retailer to open it's doors so I can rush in and beat the next guy to the last sale item is not my ideal way to kick off the holiday season.

I'm thinking of taking my son to the Museum of Science, or to a showing of The Nutcracker, or to a college hockey game.

10. I used to work retail
I hate the Christmas shopping season with the burning fire of 1,000 suns. I think I'll just order shit online, I can do that in my pajamas and never have to see anybody but the mailman.

12. Most likely, I'm one of the
few females that hate shopping, so needless to say, I won't be out that day. As a matter of fact, there's only two people I buy gifts for, which makes things incredibly easy for me.

13. Its not really the busiest shopping day
I work in the credit card industry, we track this stuff.

While it is one of the top 5 days of the year, the busiest is usually the last Saturday before Christmas. Mothers Day usually makes the top 5 also.

16. No, but I have to work that day (retail) so that should be entertaining.
I refuse to do any christmas shopping until a week or two into December unless I see something by chance that would really be perfect for someone before that.

There's no way I'd go shopping on that Friday. None. My gramma used to drag all of us out to the mall when we were little and it was always a nightmare. And on top of it, she wouldn't even buy anything because we were all with her. We had to go and point at things we might like, but it was totally beside the point because she had most of her shopping done in like, June. Shopaholic, thy name is gramma.

I've always wondered! It should be called "Green" Friday since we spend so much damn money!

20. From Wikipedia:
Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, is historically one of the busiest retail shopping days of the year. Many consider it the "official" beginning to the Christmas shopping season. The "black" in the name comes from the standard accounting practice of using red ink to denote negative values (i.e., losses) and black ink to denote positive values (profits). Black Friday is the day when retailers traditionally get back "in the black" after operating "in the red" for the previous months.

Although Black Friday is typically the busiest shopping day of the year in terms of customer traffic, it is not typically the day with the highest sales volume. That is usually either the last Saturday before Christmas or December 23.

Because of the large amount of shopping that typically occurs on Black Friday, it has also become Buy Nothing Day.

19. I work that day and have for years.
Contrary to popular belief, it's not the busiest shopping day of the season. That would be either Dec. 22 or 23, at least in my store.
