I think we may have just been adopted by another cat....
A skin and bones little kitty was mewing up a storm outside our back door when we came home tonight... Who could blame her... The weather has turned decidedly fall like in the last few hours...

Of course, this change in routine just totally disrupted the eb and flow in the delicate intra feline relationship developed over three years of our four cats living under the same roof...

The indoor cats were upset... I think two of them want us to adopt the little critter while Sylvia, named after the self destructive Plath Poet, absolutely freaked...

And of course Fenny, the ornery little cuss, doesn't want any part of another kitty...

The cat has a collar but it is far too skittish right now to let us get up close and have a look see...

Mrs. WCGreen took out some water, a little dry food and an old wicker basket with a towel so the poor little critter can find some peace...

We shall see what happens tomorrow...

1. Poor little kitty...
I hate it when some people abandon their cats with their collars on. It makes everyone think, "oh, it belongs to someone," and the poor thing is starving.

My SIL has temporarily adopted a feral cat that was pregnant. Sadly, all the kittens died. But "TC" (temporary cat) is still living on their screened-in porch. My nephew told me last night, "I think it's time for a name change."

Bless you and all those who have compassion for little critters. :)

3. Well, the kitty may have just taken off and got discombobulated
Cats are very territorial and usually find their way home...

5. Perhaps...
but "skin and bones" may indicate abandonment. And if he/she was abused or mistreated, it would be skittish around any new people. Sounds like you did the right thing.

2. The poor little thing......
She is damn lucky to have stumbled into your yard tonight, my dear Chris......

Sounds like she has had a rough go of it....

We had a kitten do that to us a long time ago.....and he stayed around. I used to sit in the driveway out front and wheedle him till he got close enough to pat......We had to move slowly until he trusted us a lot...but he did get there......

Our problem was getting our large Dalmation to accept him..but she did after awhile....

Good luck to all of you! And do keep us posted on how she does.....

 :hi:

4. We shall see if this is a temporary adoption....
Or if we now have an outdoor cat..

I really want to see if we can find her family....

6. Of course that would be the next thing to do.......
Get close enough to her to read her collar.....

I know you'll take extremely good care of her in the meantime.....

If you get a chance, have a look at my pic thread...something rather different from me......

9. Awwwww
My heart goes out to animals in general, but cats in particular. I hope this little one, if it has no family of its own, comes to trust you and join your family. I know you and Mrs. WCGreen will take good care of it. Hopefully the other kitties will adapt and welcome it into the home. I hate the idea of the poor thing living outside during the winter.

12. Either way, I hope the kitty ends up with a safe haven
This is not the time of year to be on the streets.
