Does anyone else love public television?
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 08:14 PM by nashbridges
I'm watching a documentary on the history of the nuclear bomb right now, and I'm fascinated. Edit: It might not be a history of the nuclear bomb. Yet I'm still fascinated. I just turned it on.

This is the kind of stuff you used to be able to see on the History Channel before the Discovery Channel people decided to ruin it.

1. I agree,
public television rules. They have some of the best informative, in-depth programming out there. We support it when we can remember to send a donation, usually once a year. History Channel is crap, so is the Discovery Channel anymore.

3. Not anymore, the change was so drastic and sudden. No more
donations from here until they bring back some balance.

6. I don't think this documentary has a political bent
Maybe, but I doubt it. It seems to be a special about an Axis/Ally ship that was sunk during WWII while it was carrying heavy water. And they're doing a great friggin job of explaining why heavy water was important to both sides.

I listen to CD's in the car, so radio is a topic I can't offer an opinion on. But what I'm watching right now is great, especially for being a free service.

7. Oh yes of course, that's what so insidious about what he's doing
most of their programming is still educational in nature, but he uses it as cover to stifle the last voice of moderation on the TV.

8. The kind of "public TV" I like is...
... the kind where I am forced to pay a subscription yearly of about $200 US. Being previously from the UK, I still miss the output of the BBC. Before you ask, yes there is BBC America, but it's just a pale commercialized version of BBC programming (and includes other UK programming not just BBC). The BBC understand what public service broadcasting is all about, and about the best news organization that I know of anywhere.

However, the public broadcast channels here do the best they can with the limited resources they have. I do support public radio; I guess I should support public TV, but I don't as I don't watch that much TV myself.

Mark.
