So, how should I distract myself after I lose the election?
for those who don't know, I'm running for office - a fairly major office - and I'm most decidedly a dark horse. So, how should I best distract myself after I get my ass handed to me? Should I indulge in vices that I've been avoiding because they'd look bad in campaign hit pieces? Should I get drunk and dance on tables at another candidate's election night party, since I can't afford a swanky party myself? Should I indulge in retail therapy tomorrow?

How would YOU distract yourself after losing an election you really wanted to win?

1. Getting wasted at another candidate's party may boost your political cred.

2. Get drunk, crash the victor's party, scream that the voters are uneducated
louts and inbred idiots.

:D

5. No one can figure his politics out
the slimy little weasel changes them pretty much every fifteen minutes. He used to be a Democrat until 1981, when he switched parties in mid-term and handed control of the state Senate over to the Republicans. I can't stand him. Never could.

9. He's bound to be giving someone some room to steal $$$
Find it one way or another. Befriend lawyers and journalists. Dig up the dirt, back it up, and hand it to the voters on a silver platter.

If you can't do those things I don't have much positive advice for you. Thieves can be hard to out when they are backed by the people.

6. I'm more the GIVING a table dance type
not that I'm entirely averse to being on the receiving end, either. And that was one of the types of vices I was referring to that I couldn't do during the campaign. The campaign's over, so anything goes now!

WHEEEE!

10. sounds to me like you've already gotten things under control ...
I applaud your being able to make some damned funny jokes about the whole thing! (My party generally loses, so one would think that we'd be used to it by now ... but it can be hard to get past the feeling that one has been rejected.) I love the part about getting drunk and dancing on tables at the winner's party. Mind if I steal it for the municipal election next week? (One of my friends is running for city council.)

To cheer him up, I'm giving him a surprise gift after the wind-down/cleanup party -- a two-handed Starfire stage combat sword (he's an actor and a Middle Ages buff, so I think he'll like it).
