Do Me a Favor Wouldya? Someone PM PassingFair and tell her that
just because I like watching the baby panda at the National Zoo I am NOT....I repeat....NOT decorating my house in Early American Panda. In the space of a week or so she has brought over a 2 foot by 3 foot (framed even!) Panda poster and a deck of panda cards. I fear what she will come up with next. I am afraid of turning into one of those crazy "collector" ladies...You know, the ones with the shelves of penguin figurines? I reserve that for Packer stuff. :P

Have a good day DU. :hi:

3. You must stop it NOW....
I will be happy to try to help you in that endeavor.

I had a few penguins in the beginning, then when my family and friends learned that I liked penguins the nightmare began. :scared: Every christmas and birthday I would receive tons of penguin figurines, glasses, mugs, posters, stuffed animals. I was inundated and overrun by penguins. My shelves were full, my corners stuffed. It was so bad that I had to declare an end to penguins as gifts. I mean, how many places can you store a penguin?

Even now, when people on my street are going through the rubble in their yards, should they find a penguin in any shape or form or condition, they save it for me knowing of my fondest for the little tuxedo clad critters. It is very sweet that they care enough to know of my fondest and they save the object, but the condition of some of the objects they save is rather frightening. I would rather not see the found items. :-(

Stop it now before the pandas consume your world!

5. See? You know where I'm coming from. I just want the panda on my
laptop...not in my home. I hung the framed poster in the basement and I have to admit, it scares the poop out of me at night when I run down to the laundry room. :scared:

I have enough stuff with the Packer logo on it to know that I don't want to compete with Pandas. :)

How are things?

6. Things are okay.
I'm a little bummed :-( , but that happens. I was hoping to find smiles in the lounge, but I see the silliness continues and I don't have the emotional stamina to deal with it.

I was grateful to find your thread, a truly wonderful thread of such importance and wit. Thank you :-)

13. I don't think folks realize the importance of this place.
Yes, I have a life outside of here and of course, my life would be so much simpler if I didn't have to deal with my real world issues. But I do have real world issues and it was wonderful to come here and find the love and support I found. I can truly say that the relationships I have so fortunately been able to form here have made a difference in my survival.

If I didn't have one particular friendship on August 29th, I would have been so lost. I reached out to my friend and she reached back and pulled me out of despair, let me know I wasn't alone and that she cared and that many here cared. I truly believe that the love and support, prayers and positive energies that came from so many on DU, thanks to the friend's efforts to keep folks informed and to "keep me alive" on DU did in fact keep me alive.

And now, the friend is no longer a part of DU and we are the ones that are made poorer by her absence. Because of the petty jealousies and emotional baggage of others, I cannot even refer to my friend by name for fear of a flame fest or getting my post deleted or this thread locked. It goes without saying that I will not be able to come her and read her posts and bask in the warmth that could be found in them and laugh at the wit and marvel at the spirit that freely posted with such energy and love for the enjoyment of all. I've never envied another's spirit, I have found pleasure in letting the spirit touch my life and honor if that spirit called me friend.

Months ago I wrote this thread, Ripple Effect, and it so applies to the love and efforts of my friend. The stones tossed by my friend caused waves of humor, love and laughter that have kept me from sinking when my burdens have been heavy, that made me feel connected to something when I had lost so much and was so alone. And now, that friend's words will not be read here and her spirit will not be felt. I, for one, believe that this community is poorer now that the riches and love so freely given by my friend will no longer be found in the lounge.

I will miss my friend in the lounge and I so regret that past bitterness and petty jealousies have caused my friend to leave. I will try my best to not adopt those feelings and cause the type of pain that my friend felt. I will try to ignore those that I believe caused the pain, all I can do is try....

:-(

Yesterday was weird all right. But the sun came up again today. I'm wishing you well and I hope you have a great day. I know you have more to deal with than most of the rest of us and I'm trying to send you good vibes for a bust-out feelin' good day. :hi:

19. Elephants
When my grandma died last year we had to box up everything in her house and take inventory. She collected elephants and everybody for years bought her elephant stuff some of it quite valuable and rare. We took 63 boxes of elephants out of the house. Alternately expressed as a semi-truck load or 3 1/2 tons or 14,322 figurines and I had to count, then carry, every last one myself.

Any idea how hard it is to fit fourteen-thousand elephants into a 1,500 sq ft house? It's almost 10 elephants per square foot.

14. A friend of mine had that happen in college
One of our pledge rules for our sorority (yes, it was co-ed) was that you had to carry a pocket-sized plastic dinosaur around with you at all times during pledge week. If you got caught by a member without the dinosaur, you had to pay.

Well, the parents of my friend happened to visit him during pledge week and saw the dinosaur. They then assumed that he now had some sort of dinosaur fixation, and started giving him dinosaur-themed stuff: towels, bedsheets, coffee mugs, etc. By the time he graduated he had dinosaur everything.

...Don't tell my husband.
