Saw Bill Clinton today
He was signing books today at the Texas Book Fair in austin. All the wristbands had been sold out days before so we couldnt go inside to see him. But nice guy that Bill is, he came out after the signing and went right into the big crowd of us standing around. He was shaking hands and talking to us. Nice guy, very personable.

1. Big Dog, our only President, I miss him terribly
Every time * fucks up, I think to myself, the Big Dog would NEVER do that, never. It was always people first. He'd have gone to every funeral of every one who died in Iraq and Afghanistan. He'd have been vocal about getting them home instead of making them stay. And he would have fired any sonuvabitch who leaked out an agent.

Bill understood.

5. I disagree.
Mr. Clinton wouldn'thave attended the funerals of men and women killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Because the US forces wouldn't have been waging war there on his watch.

6. Great point, except he'd have been cleaning up the mess
another Corrupt Conservative had started.

I still miss him terribly. He was a leader, not a despot.

4. You were drawn in by the power of the Clenis.
It blinded you to the fact that he was really trying to bring Communism to the bookstore, and having sex with anything in sight.

7. Bill is to my generation what JFK was
to my parents. I will never forget taking to the streets of UVa. the night he was elected. The first Democratic president in most of our memories at the time. I hope he realizes the fervity of most Dems' appreciation for him.

9. he realized it alright
austin loves Bill. We were going nuts outside waiting for him to come out. I hope he knows not to set foot outside Travis county, he won't get a very warm reception. :(

8. I was lucky enough to see him speak when he ran the first time
He came out to the street and shook hands and I got to shake his hand and wish him luck in the elections. It was my b-day on that day and my girlfriend at the time got me a Nixon/Elvis shirt and when I shook Bill's hand he looked at my shirt and laughed.

He was something to hear in person. It was a good time back then, I miss those days.

13. No kidding.
That's how I got interested in politics in the first place.

We finally had a President who gave intelligent and well delivered speeches that were genuinely interesting to listen to and think about.

12. why is it so often the case, that when the term "big crowd of us" ...
... is mentioned, during a Bill Clinton story, it always seems to end with him waving aside the security and time concerns -- never mind the possibility that someone might come up and start criticizing him -- and wading in to just talk with people?

A rhetorical question, of course. A cool story, ikhor -- thanks for sharing!
