What Happened to Common Courtesy??
I had been on an extended break (teacher at year-round school)..I had surgery and could not return the first week of classes and meetings due to complications. I informed the school of the situation and, to date, have received NO response from ANYBODY concerning my well-being. I have worked there about 17 years and, granted, there is extremely high turnover, I am offended. While my wife tells me not to expect anything, I can understand that intellectually, but I am still somewhat hurt.

Further, an elderly teacher who recently retired, is suffering from cancer. Before I went on break, I mentioned it to staff and cards were distributed and a collection was taken up to buy a gift before I went to visit him. As of yesterday, HE told me nobody had called either.

Is this indicative of the rest of the country? Apart from my own personal feelings, this is a disturbing symptom of our society and I am curious to see if any of you have experienced this lack of education?

Thanks for letting me vent...now pass me the vicodin....

2. I worry about things, too.
While I haven't quite seen the neglect that you have experienced, I do see a lot of day-to-day hostility, coldness, etc.

I hope things get better from here.

3. Feel the same way
First I hope the vicodin is working :hi:

Second, most people do not have common courtesy but often in a work setting it is one of the administration/assistant types that get the ball rolling on the card/flowers/gift/call thing. As those older administration types leave I think the common courtesy corral leaves as well.

Hope you're doing well!

5. Ah yes, I remember the thread you had about your surgery.
I'm sorry there were complications. Get better and enjoy that Vicodin.

As for your current thread, I don't know, maybe it's just the people you work with. When I had that same surgery, I worked for a big corporation and my immediate coworkers sent me flowers as well as the big boss. (I'm sure the secretary sent it, but hey it was still a nice gesture.) I would be hurt too if there was no inquiries to my condition, but maybe they feel uncomfortable talking about your illness. Some people are like that. If I were you, I'd try to shrug it off. :)
