New patent turns doggie poop into briquettes
BERLIN - Authorities in Germany have issued what is believed to be the world's first industrial patent for a scientific procedure to convert doggie poop into fuel briquettes and construction materials. And the Berlin man who filed the patent is confident he could be the first person in history to become rich from collecting dog droppings, almost literally turning excrement into cash.

"I could be sitting on a pile," says Karl-Friedrich Lentze, a 57- year-old avant-garde artist. "Every heap of dog dump I see on the street is worth its weight in gold to me."
...

"Millions of people the world over cook with cow patties," Lentze tells interviewers. "It's plentiful and very efficient. In big cities like Berlin there's very little available cow dung but we're practically suffocating in dog scheisse, so it's about time we took advantage of it." Suffocating is precisely the word to describe the aroma that emanates from Lentze's pottery ovens during the baking process. It is also possible to use a microwave, Lentze says during a demonstration arranged especially for the TV camera crews. But a pottery oven provides a better result.

Using a fresh specimen conveniently provided by his pet terrier Karlchen, Lentze painstakingly moulds (using latex-gloved hands) several small briquettes into tiny baking forms and shoves them into the pre-heated oven. The ensuing stench is truly breathtaking, despite the fact that windows in Lentze's apartment/studio have been flung wide open.
"I have to admit that this is the worst part of it," Lentze says, looking somewhat green in the face. "I don't suppose I'll ever get used to the odour of steaming hot scheisse in the oven."
...
"If there's anything better than turning scheisse into money," Lentze says with an artistic sweep of the hand, "it's turning scheisse into art."

2. Herr Lentze has an unfortunate fixation on canine feces.
Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that there was a story about his patent for scheiße-based cinderblocks, or some such? Sounds like he needs intensive therapy with an old-school Freudian.

4. yup, that was basically the same thing

Lentze is batshit (pardon: dogshit) crazy, plain and simple. But he has an uncanny talent to get the media to report about his projects.

5. Poo paper, too.
Elephant poo paper (no, really)
In Hemel Hempstead - a company called Ellie Poo that pays Sri Lankans to collect elephant dung, boil the poo down to pulp and then export it to the UK for recycling into paper. The poo paper's then made into cute cards like the £3 one pictured, plus a whole range of other excrement stationery gifts. Surreal, certainly. But also spotlessly ethical. The Sri Lankans get employment (albeit collecting crap), 5 per cent of Ellie Poo's profits go back to the collectors, plus the paper's recycled and biodegradable. In the process, Sri Lankans get a very practical cash reason to look after their small-eared Asian elephants, which are on the Red List of endangered species. Ellie Poo's website.

25kg of kangaroo manure makes 400 sheets of paper
Visitors to Tasmania will soon be able to buy a new souvenir of their Australian experience - paper made from kangaroo manure.

"At the moment we are finding it very difficult to get the quantity of poo we need," she said."We are hoping the community will help by collecting poo for us and dropping it off in plastic bags. New or old, we'll take it all," she told the Advocate newspaper.

The company estimates that about 400 A4 sheets of paper can be made from 25kg (55 pounds) of kangaroo manure.

Ms Gair said her idea was inspired by the success of the elephant dung paper industry in Africa."I also discovered that in Scandinavia, elk poo paper is the stationery of choice in most offices," she added.

I will be making my own paper soon, but I will NOT be using poo.
