Is he not the most incredible writer? I am constantly amazed at how he chooses his words to produce the imagery that he does. I always get his books on tape. There is nothing better than hearing him read his own stuff. Reading it from a regular book wouldn't be the same at all!

1. OMG, I LOVE him. He's an hysterical writer. I have almost all his
books. I have literally laughed out loud til I was crying, reading some of his stuff.

His humor is wickedly funny. I haven't tried the book on tape thing, though. Maybe I'll do that for his latest one.......

Good tip, thanks, hippywife! :hi:

2. We keep finding more that
Edited on Sat Oct-22-05 03:21 PM by hippywife
we have in common, Shine!! LOL

This past Christmas, I got all his books on tape or CD from the library and we listened to them as we did our holiday baking and stuff. His story about working as an elf in a department store is hysterical. I can never hear Billy Holiday without thinking about it.

Many of his stories are very poignant, also. He really is making fun of his past pain alot of the time.

7. Yeah, that's true. That was a *great* bit.
I'm sure he's abundantly made up for not being appreciated by his childhood guitar teacher. I hope he comes to town soon. I'd like to see him.

6. Thanks, Shine. It's a red letter day for me and the baby panda.
Toast; better days are coming. Thanks for noticing. I've been working hard to up my numbers, without just posting at every piece of low lying fruit, by making thoughtful and pertinent replies and posts.

The baby panda, at the Washington zoo, http://www.animal.discovery.com/cams/pandavidr.html, is having a banner day with his walking/ toddling/ standing.

8. His writing is fresh , funny and poignant
While reading "Dress Your Family..." I was struck by his forthrightness and introspection. I read "Me Talk Pretty One Day" after that and am looking forward to reading his other works.

9. The story about his mom
Edited on Sat Oct-22-05 03:37 PM by hippywife
locking them out of the house on a snowy day was very poignant in addition to having its funny moments. It's really great that he can take painful moments in his life and make them into comedy and commentary.
