2. Oh C'mon now, Charlie is just terribly misunderstood.
Deep down inside he's just a _ _ _ _ _ _ _....

3. He's an interesting case.
He's clearly insane, and a product of a system which never rehabilitated him in his formative years.

But on the other hand, he is in prison for life for telling people to kill people. That's just bizarre.

It's as if he is viewed as so dangerous, it was worth bending the rule of law to incarcerate him.

4. he's "interesting," all right...
i'm reading this right now:

pretty good to compare & contrast with bugliosi's "helter skelter" book; though it does seem a bit sensationalistic. if you can find an old edition, there's a chapter on "the process" church, which were satanists that charlie was supposedly involved/hung around with before the killings. the new printing has a lot added to it, so i got 'em both (bought the old edition used for $2).

8. And does it mention Process' links to the CIA's
MK-Ultra program?

The plot thickens.

5. but he was great on the "Ben Stiller Show"...
some quotes:

Woman: Dear Charles, I have three rambunctious children. How do you remove a tomato stain from a Persian rug?

Charles Manson: You can't get a stain out! You think I'm the stain. They say Charlie is a stain and they try to rub me out and put me in a jail cell. Only you don't - you just spread me around, more! I'm inside your children. I'm a stain all out there in the world. I'm not just locked up. You're locked up in the prison. I'm free. I'm fly - I'm...

Charles Manson: ... floating around and looking around. I Like it up here. You should try some lemon juice.

9. Those skits were hysterical.
Did you see the episode where they did a spoof of Lassie? They replaced the dog with Manson? It was so funny!

6. I could never figure out why people found him interesting.
Edited on Wed Oct-19-05 02:44 PM by devilgrrl
He influenced a bunch of drugged out young people to go on a killing spree. Wow! How fascinating!!!! :sarcasm:

A few years back these stoner surfer assholes made a t-shirt that said "Charlie Don't Surf." Some victim rights group got all up in arms about them (can't blame them). The stoner/surfers excuse was that "Charlie never killed anyone." :eyes: He so boring.

There's this good book out called 'American Monsters', Legs McNeil has a great essay about what an ass Manson is - it's brilliant. Totally rips away the undeserved adoration that has been heaped upon him by his groupies. One of my favorite essays in the book.

12. Interesting doesn't always have a positive connotation.
You read an essay about thim, so you must have been somewhat interested in the subject.

The Bataan Death March is interesting.

Biological weapons are interesting.

Election fraud is interesting.

13. I thought "Charlie Don't Surf" was
some reference to the Viet Cong. Am I mis-remembering something possibly from "Apocalypse Now?"

Manson is one of the Classic American Maniacs - crazier than a $hithouse rat but he is an interesting homicidal lunatic.

14. I'm not sure of the origin...
but that's what the t-shirts said. The idiots selling them were typical dim bulb beach bum assholes though.
