Who else is playing Nation States - it's free and it's fun
http://www.nationstates.net /

We use to have a bitching Region ages ago and we could use some fresh blood back in there. Just go to the above site and create your own country (you'll be ask some questions so your government can best be defined). Then move your region to Democratic Underground.

This is my country:
The Disputed Territories of Herradura Anejo is a tiny, socially progressive nation, renowned for its burgeoning Nebelung Cat population. Its hard-nosed population of 6 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The enormous, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Healthcare, and Education. The average income tax rate is 36%, but much higher for the wealthy. A nonexistent private sector is dominated by the Pizza Delivery industry.

Voting is voluntary. Crime is well under control. Herradura Anejo's national animal is the Nebelung Cat, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Agave.

Herradura Anejo is ranked 5th in the region and 53,162nd in the world for Stupidest Citizens

2. You know I am.
The Commonwealth of Social Carolina is a small, socially progressive nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its compassionate population of 14 million enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.

The large, liberal government juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Education, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 23%, but much higher for the wealthy. A large private sector is led by the Information Technology, Woodchip Exports, and Door-to-door Insurance Sales industries.

The latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller, the government's religious works are headed by a New Age guru, military spending is on the increase, and punitive tariffs protect local industry. Crime is well under control. Social Carolina's national animal is the Beagle and its currency is the Caroline.

Social Carolina is ranked 4th in the region and 47,489th in the world for Stupidest Citizens.

19. Blue agave is what tequila is made from
I have a bunch in my yard. The tequila is made from the stalk. They are succulents but they are not cacti. Aloe is also in the agave family. It is an extremely useful plant, sisal is woven from the fibers of one particular agave plant and can be used to make rope or clothing.

The Grand Duchy of Rubyduby
"Thus ever to progressive doxie lovers everywhere!"

UN Category: Liberal Democratic Socialists
Civil Rights:Excellent
Economy:Fragile
Political Freedoms:Superb

Location: The North Pacific
The Grand Duchy of Rubyduby is a tiny, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its devotion to social welfare. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 5 million love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, corrupt, socially-minded morass -- juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Healthcare, and Education. The average income tax rate is 44%, but much higher for the wealthy. A tiny private sector is dominated by the Gambling industry.

Crime is well under control. Rubyduby's national animal is the mini dachshund, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the duby.

The Republic of Allenburgh is a tiny, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its absence of drug laws. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 5 million are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, corrupt morass -- juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Healthcare, and Social Welfare. The average income tax rate is 34%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Retail.

Crime is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Allenburgh's national animal is the pissed off cat, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the fish sandwich.

Superb

Location: the Pacific
The People's Republic of Grumpalia Major is a tiny, socially progressive nation, renowned for its absence of drug laws. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 5 million hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

The medium-sized, liberal government devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas such as Law & Order and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 22%, but much higher for the wealthy. A very small private sector is dominated by the Gambling industry.

Crime is moderate, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Grumpalia Major's national animal is the panda and its currency is the okra seed.

31. Signed up and moved in to the DU region!
Here's my info:

The Kingdom of Nilyov is a tiny, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its burgeoning white tiger population. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 5 million are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The enormous, corrupt government juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Law & Order, and Education. The average income tax rate is 36%, but much higher for the wealthy. A small but healthy private sector is led by the Trout Farming industry, followed by Gambling and Automobile Manufacturing.

Crime is well under control, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Nilyov's national animal is the white tiger, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the husk.

Don't worry, I'll work on it

The Kingdom of Magicrat is a tiny, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its absence of drug laws. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 5 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Healthcare, Social Welfare, and Education. The average income tax rate is 28%, but much higher for the wealthy. A tiny private sector is dominated by the Woodchip Exports industry.

Crime is moderate, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Magicrat's national animal is the turtle, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the dollar.

37. The People's Republic of Velo Riders
The People's Republic of Velo Riders is a massive, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 1.873 billion hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Education, and the Environment. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

The tenet of free speech is held dear, leather-clad individuals can be seen walking their slaves in public parks, parents live in fear of governmental 'child protection' squads, and wildlife near farms is slowly becoming extinct. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Velo Riders's national animal is the wombat, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the kronor.

At present, I'm located in the North Pacific Region. Maybe I'll shift over.

Velo Riders is ranked 158th in the region and 108,124th in the world for Stupidest Citizens.
