Parent's Shocked At Kid's Attitudes About Oral Sex
Edited on Wed Oct-19-05 10:18 AM by matcom
<snip>

The generational divide between baby-boomer parents and their teenage offspring is sharpening over sex.

Oral sex, that is.

More than half of 15- to 19-year-olds are doing it, according to a groundbreaking study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The researchers did not ask about the circumstances in which oral sex occurred, but the report does provide the first federal data that offer a peek into the sex lives of American teenagers.

To adults, oral sex is extremely intimate, and to some of these young people, apparently it isn't as much, says Sarah Brown, director of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.

What we're learning here is that adolescents are redefining what is intimate.

Among teens, oral sex is often viewed so casually that it needn't even occur within the confines of a relationship. Some teens say it can take place at parties, possibly with multiple partners. But they say the more likely scenario is oral sex within an existing relationship.

Still, some experts are increasingly worrying that a generation that approaches intimate behavior so casually might have difficulty forming healthy intimate relationships later on.

My parents' generation sort of viewed oral sex as something almost greater than sex. Like once you've had sex, something more intimate is oral sex, says Carly Donnelly, 17, a high school senior from Cockeysville, Md.

Now that some kids are using oral sex as something that's more casual, it's shocking to (parents).

17. I did spar with a freeper-type who said, and I quote:
"he (Clinton) is to blame for the current epidemic of oral sex in teenagers".

I asked him where I could find these mythical, magical teenagers, and he completely exploded.

18. WHAT WILL WE TELL THE CHILDREN!?!??!
lets see now...I'm purty good at math so lets see now...if they are 15 to 19 that means that 7 years ago they were 8 to 12 and what was the major story of 1998?? What was everyone talking about??????

BLOWJOB!

Gee I wonder if all that talk had anything to do with that. I also wonder if since they are (let me check ...yep they are) teenagers THEY ARE GOING TO BE DOING THE NASTY JUST LIKE EVERY TEENAGER.

BTW- check the marriage date on Pat Roberstson and his first son's birthdate and see what you find.

What will we tell the children?

I don't know a-hole YOU BROUGHT IT UP!!!

5. Nothing has changed
More parents are finding out these days, kids have looser lips about sex, now(no pun intended).

Me and my friends never considered oral sex "sex".

"Hey, man, you get laid? No, we just 69'd"

Please post only the first 4 paragaphs of a source article with a link to the remaining. This allows us to use DU's copyright lawyer retainer money for new monogrammed bath towels and champangne flutes in the moderator hot tub room.

15. This is not new
I was in college in the mid-80s, long before Monica gave Bill a hummer, and plenty of college-aged girls felt oral sex was a good alternative to coitus. You didn't need a bed to do it, you didn't get pregnant from it, and, according to my roommate who was proud to be called BJQ, guys really like it.

If college girls in K-zoo were thinking like that in the 80s, the high school girls were not far behind.

16. Statistics likely wrong - Most teens are not sexually active
Edited on Wed Oct-19-05 01:24 PM by brentspeak
The researchers got their information from blind surveys - and from teenagers, at that. Suspect, to say the least.

20. This is what happens with "Abstinence Pledges"
The schools are making such a big deal about abstinence and forming Abstinence Clubs where kids promise to save their virginity for marriage.

For these kids the loophole is simple: Lost virginity means old fashioned intercourse (Penis & vagina). So therefore the kids are using loopholes by skipping vaginal intercourse and instead moving on to both oral and anal intercourse.

29. Lots of Fundies I went to college with thought this
If it wasn't vaginal intercourse, it wasn't "real" sex, and you were still a virgin. OMG. This Catholic-raised girl was shocked! I was taught by my Church (although not my rational nurse mom) that anything past second base was technically sex.

28. I graduated in 1996 from high school
Oral sex was considered less serious than oral sex. Many teen couples had oral sex before they had intercourse, if they even ended up having intercourse. They generally weren't promiscous about it though, at least at my high school. I didn't know anyone who had oral sex with multiple people at the same party, for instance.
