I just had a JW visit. First time in a long time.
They were very pleasant. It was a grandmother, mother, and young child (I'd guess around age two). The young mother asked me if I had a religion and pulled out a copy of the Watchtower.

I smiled and said I do have a religion I'm happy with and I was not interested in the literature. They accepted that with a smile and moved along.

They'll have a tough time of it getting anyone interested in this neighborhood. There is a very high population of LDS here.

1. I keep having these cute Mormons come by
I generally don't like having evangelizing type folks drop by the house, but these little cuties are A-OK in my book :D

3. In the five years we have lived here - heavy LDS country - we have NEVER
been visited by Mormon missionaries.

When we first moved in, our next door neighbors were LDS (they have since moved and the couple that lives there now is Catholic). They invited us to share a Monday Family Home Night with them. Not knowing what that was, we happily accepted. It was interesting. They had their children and grandchildren over also, served dessert, had a craft for the children, then sang songs and read a passage from the Bible.

I'm not sorry we went, but we did decline the next invitation for a Monday night.

2. I've been here over a year, and I've never gotten a visit.
I guess they've determined that this is not a good neighborhood for them.

4. I don't get visits either, but
it could be because I have this on my door:

One of my best purchases ever!

5. I work with one
Nicest guy in the entire world. One of the few people who visited me in the hospital last spring, too-- something my ex-wife never did.

We've had several interesting discussions about religion, all of them civil, and we agree to disagree on some things. However, we're still friends.

I don't know why they get such a bad rap-- even the home visits by them have been fine. I tell them I know all about their religion but I'm happy with mine, thank you very much.

6. Watchtower?
Just pull out your Hendrix while they talk about the Kingdumb and how only 44,000 are going to get in!

Let's see. About 8,800,000,000 people on Earth so far. One chance in 200,000. More than 44,000 JWs so far. Odds are zilch.

Zeus is more lenient!

15. I admit that I've never understood that.
If only 144,000 are bound for the kingdom of Heaven, why do they try to recruit more members? Is there more to the story?

17. I don't quite get it either
but I'm sure it's explained in detail in their literature, as are all the predictions for the end of the world (which still hasn't happened, at least to my knowledge).

21. I've asked a JW that and she said...
(paraphrasing and hopefully not misremembering) that the righteous who are not part of the 144,000 can hope to live on the Earth after it receives it's paradisaical glory. So the Earth will be exalted and it will still be a good place to be, although not the ultimate. She also said that the 144K will be all male and all virgins.

9. Why?
I'm sure to them, Lutheran is no different from Scientology or Catholicism or Mormonism or Judaism or any other "wrong" religion.

That's hotdish. :D

Inviting them in is not an option. I'm willing to be pleasant and polite, but I'm not willing to give up my morning's time.

10. I was visiting my very Catholic FIL
over Thanksgiving break a few years ago. He had his house already decorated with every Christmas thing every made.

When the JW came to the door I answered and, thinking I'd get a laugh, I told her that we were Jewish.

I swear that woman reeled back off the stoop and RAN away like I was the devil.

I've been waiting years for another encounter to see if saying "I'm Jewish" will work again. Does anyone know what they believe about Jews?

11. There's a high population of LSD in my neighborhood.
They'd get tired of people saying to them, "Like wow, man, do you see that car turning into a green and brown hippopotamus, man?"

19. It's funny that I am always polite to the Mormons. But if the JW's
show up I tell them - in a warning voice - that "I'm on the *other side*." They didn't show up again after that. LOL.

26. Last time I had anyone like that come to the door, I was at my parents'
place visiting, and one of the young men asked me for some water. When I came back, he and the other guy were clearly scoping out the place, and when one hastily put away his pad of paper and pen into an inside suit coat pocket, there was a pack of smokes in the pocket.
I said nothing, but watched them as they left, and got into an old beater parked halfway down the block; I called cops and reported it, and sure as shit, they were major thieves using the 'cover' of missionaries to scope out potential targets for robbery.
That'll teach 'em to mess with a Lutheran PK, hee hee!

27. We've gotten both LDS and JW's here on a number of occasions.
The both seem to be into a real recruiting drive. The Mormons are the nicest when they ask me if I attend church. I tell them where and they're on their way. No arm-twisting converstions.

28. We have the periodic roving JWs here
My husband has talked to them. They are a middle aged couple. We have an LDS church right down the street from us, but I have only had them knock at the door once, when I was single. I chose not to answer the door because it was two men, and I was being safety conscious.

31. I bought a Watchtower from someone once
It was pouring down rain and this young girl, I'd say she was 17 or 18 was standing out selling them. I told her that I felt I had to buy one because she was so dedicated to be standing out in that weather.
