My mom just had to put her dog to sleep
The pup had very bad arthritis and kidney failure - she was a very old dog.

What do you think would be a nice gesture for my mom and her husband? They are very sad about their loss. I could send flowers, of course, but I was wondering if anyone had any better ideas. Unfortunately I do not have a photo of the dog which precludes a few home-made possibilities.

1. Just talk to her and be there, that will mean a lot.
So will just a token of flowers or something of that like, but being there and listening, is much more important.

2. I'm sorry Mizmoon.
Perhaps you could take them out to dinner or even cook dinner for them if they don't want to go out.

9. Maybe I'll bring them a pizza
that will be much better than any junk I'd try to cook. LOL

3. For now, plenty of hugs.
Then, ask for their favorite picture and have it framed for them. (They have pictures, don't they?) I made a photo album for my sister when her dog died. She was more than happy to supply the photos and she just loves the album.

4. Plant a tree in the yard where the dog liked to bask in the sun
If this is an option. My friend did this for his wife and she thought it was the best thing ever.

12. Everyone should be as well-loved as this dog was
the sun rose and set on her, in their eyes. She had a very good life.

Oddly enough the dog was the ugliest dog I ever personally knew, proving that beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.

14. LOL - ugly dog
Ugly dogs are the sometimes to most well loved dogs out there. I am glad the idea is useful. I know I would probably do something like that for my dog.

11. There are some very nice books out these days on recovering
from the loss of a pet.

Maybe something like that, with a heartfelt card.

Just a suggestion,
Shine

PS. How sweet of you for wanting to provide comfort to your mom.

17. rainbowsbrige.com
is a wonderful tribute on line to pets. I think it's around $25-$35 and part of the money goes to an animal shelter. They can dedicate the memories they have and creat a little on-line space for them. They can read other people's stories as well. It's a real tear-jerker but it was very theraputic for me when my precious kitty passed away at only six years old (for no known reason as she'd never been sick a day in her life). Good luck and they have my deepest sympathy.:-(
