The "Burger King" Ads freak me out.
I mean, they're not horrible or bad or even insulting..they just give
me a creepy feeling.

The "King" always seems nice enough and all that but for some strange Physiological
reason, I expect him, any second, to pull out an Ax and go on a killing spree....

4. They have succeeded...
...It doesn't matter to them whether or not you like or dislike the ads...

You've just exposed, and reinforced, the words "Burger King" into the minds of everyone who scans thread titles in the DU Lounge.

That's all they want...Keep the brand out there in people's minds.

6. I love the "king".
Over the past couple years, it seems that advertisers have jumped on the trend of being random or weird for the sake of it, probably because so many commercials are very formulaic, and to do something different will cause people to remember them.

Sometimes advertisers fail miserably at this. Their commercials are definitely random and/or weird, yet pointless and flat out stupid at the same time. Those piss me off.

But Burger King? That creepy/happy King has just the right amount of randomness/weirdness to be funny, IMO of course. :)

10. I love it too.
Kind of a weird intrusion in your current consciousness of an icon from your past.

Creepy, but funny.

My lovely wife hates them, though.

9. That would be their intent
Creeped out means the ad stands out from the others. It sticks in your mind. You think about Burger King and their creepy king. Tada... you have been memetically programmed. Your mind is not your own.

12. The stuff of nightmares
I don't know which one was worse...the one where the guy wakes up in the morning and finds the king hovering over his bed, or the one where the guy looks in his rear-view mirror of his car and sees the king.

16. the King is weird. Hootie really freaked me out in those ads though.
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 10:26 PM by SlavesandBulldozers
to me Hootie in a cowboy costume was the real freaky thing. I don't think I've ever seen a sell-out musician humiliate himself quite as bad as that Hootie and the King Burger King Commercial.

on edit: and yes i know his name's not Hootie.

18. The ad agency seems to have a fondness of plastic dolls....
The Plastic King thing is just amazingly creepy, and on a level I can't get a hold on, just plain disturbing.

They had some other commercials with little plastic dolls....equally just...ewwww.

19. I liked it better when Whoppers were 99 cents
The King was selling me 6 to 10 every week, ads or no ads.

I must not be watching the right shows. The only BK spots I've seen are the football runbacks. He scores every time.

20. Remember the spongemonkeys from the Quizno's ads? I thought they were
so ugly until I went to the originators, then it felt like genius but in an uncomfortable way. Anyway, as a meat eater, I DID try that meaty omelette sandwich & it was bad--just too much crap on a crappy bun.

from the 60s, I think. I don't like the "plastic man" look he has now.

26. I remember in the late '70's / early '80's...
around the time that Ronald McDonald was constantly keeping the Hamburglar at bay in numerous Saturday morning commercials, and the Burger King was busy battling his own nemesis..."The Duke of Doubt". I still don't know what that was all about--I guess we were supposed to place our faith in the King.
