Would you say this is discrimination?
After 9/11, I did the vogue nationalist thing and attached one of those flags on my car, flapping in the wind for all to see. I felt like a proud American, knowing that people will kill other people just because of who they happen to be.

Since doing that, many cars would flash their hi-beams, tailgate me, honk their horns, and do whatever they could to get around me. I didn't understand it at the time, because it never happened before. The flag was securely attached, I wasn't driving under or way above the speed limit. I didn't get it at the time, what did I do to offend them? But I took the flag off the car that night, maybe it was a driving hazard (and they likely are, they're secured solely by fitting the groove over the car's window and rolling it up :eyes: ).

Did I mention my car, at the time, had no less than 8 pro-GLBT bumper stickers on it?

You'd think that Americans would think that persecution and hatred of people is wrong, especially because America's corporate actions are far more of a conscious choice than being born GLBT.

But, no. Nobody's realized the parallel or irony.

1. You shattered their illusion
Some right-wingers think GLBT people are sub-human, and that they certainly couldn't be patriots! To think that you cared for your country shattered their illusion, which was a good thing.

2. Many twisted minds think that you can't love America and think
that the administration stinks. If you're not with us, you're against us type of rhetoric. They forget that this is not a partisan game of capture the flag.

6. YES!!!
:D

Since then I've mellowed and took off those stickers. Of which, my counselor of the time (who is gay) has said the reason why was because I matured. That comment scared me in a way... I like to think I'm a subversive rebel... :D I still am, I just go about it in less dramatic ways. :-( (oh, I'm a drama queen too... )

5. The Dem nominee
Should have the flag plastered on everything. Part of their platform should be reclamation of the flag for EVERYONE.

Sorry this happened to you. You should get one of those flag decals and paste it on your car right next to the most flamboyant GLBT you have. Maybe their heads will explode.

Rock on!

7. LOL!
It's time for a sticker change anyway.

I will get a great GLBT sticker and a flag sticker and put them side by side, before the weather gets cold... I still need my Linux and pompous self-promotional website stickers up though, and people love my "I brake for tailgaters" and "HANG UP AND DRIVE!" stickers... especially when I look in the rearview mirror and watch them whip 'em out to chatter...

I wonder if "Jerry Falwell can suck my Tinky Winky" is still available...

12. I'm not following you HypnoToad.....
Are you saying that because you had an American flag and numerous GLBT bumper stickers, people were bent out of shape?

Did things change when you removed the flag?

Maybe it's a geographic/demographic thing that I'm not catching...Do you live in Freeperville?

Sorry for all the queries...I'm just not sure what's going on here. :dunce:

13. Some of those may be positive - I honk when I agree and can give a
thumbs up..... Some aren't, of course, but you know. Personally, I think that's pretty cool.... I've only got a couple of education stickers since the car's only just paid off..... :eyes:

Secondly, make sure your flag is not tattered, faded or in any other way considered "disgraced". Some people get bent out of shape about that.

(I get a little wierded out about all the flag marketing stuff - flag doormats, teapots, toilet paper... they all seem a lot more disrespectful than simply burning it....)

Politicat.

14. I put up an American flag in
my window after 9-11 and my repuke neighbor's kid threw an egg at it. Apparently Democrats can't care about America, that is only for repukes. :-( :argh: Anyway I left the flag up until the first anniversary of when the chimp regime moved into the Whitehouse (Jan. 20) then took it down.
