My wife and I are sitting there and she is flipping through the channels and she stops at the Food Network. There is a promo for the network playing and she goes, "Hey! That music is the Gigolo Aunts!"

In case you have never heard them, they have a power pop sound similar to Big Star, the Jellyfish, Teenage Fan Club, Fountains of Wayne. They always seemed to be on the "cusp" of breaking through but never did. I went to high school with the four original members. Two of the original guys were invited to join the "re-vamped" band "Big Star" when they toured with them. (They were opening for Counting Crows).

I see the guys once in awhile; Two of the guys have moved out to Los Angeles. They write some catchy songs so check them out if you get a chance.

1. Hey small word
Met them briefly at the Columbia, MO show w/ Big Star. Their band then was called (racking brain).. oh wee, aomething else somtehing else an "S" mabey? Or maybe not. Candy Stripes perhaps. Anyhow, a friend had their record and It was to my liking. Crafty pop, sweet melodies. glad to hear they are still doing their thing..

4. Nope -- not my friends. They have been called The Gigolo Aunts
since the late 80's. (taken from a Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd fame song)

3. That is probably true...my friends never played with Big Star but
were asked to. They were on tour with Big Star and Counting Crows at the time. The lead singer (Dave Gibbs) and the lead guitar player (Phil Hurley) were the guys asked to join. Their vocals and harmonies together are amazing.

5. Posies, that was it
Sorry to add to the confusion, never mind the drunken typing last night.

Still cool that you heard your buddies, driver8. And much like your buddies, I believe you copped your name from a particluar song as well?

:hi:

6. Oh...that may be a possibility...
REM was my favorite band for many years. I haven't liked their past couple of albums much, but Murmur is probably my favorite album ever.
