I just watched Serenity... and it KICKED ASS!
I don't think I've seen a better film in a LONG time. And not just because I love Joss Whedon (although I do) or because I love Firefly (although I do). It was just a VERY well made movie, with all of the twists and turns to keep you on edge, stunning visual effects, unnoticeable CGI (however it was there... just blended in perfectly with the live action), great storyline, and great acting.

Don't trust me? 1200 reviews on Yahoo Movies and it's got an average of A-

1. Yes, it was great.
Ebert & Roeper also gave it two thumbs up.

2. I would hope so! A few big newspapers gave it bad reviews.
Called it a cliche' space western movie, bad acting, slow, etc. That's the exact OPPOSITE of what 99.9% of the citizen reviewers are writing :-)

3. Many reviewers look down on anything sci-fi
It's a shame.

4. Best movie I've seen this year
I too love Joss - who else could pull off a flawless Buffy the Vampire Slayer Musical?!?! Hehehe. All Joss love aside though and it was still the best movie of the year. Excellent writing, acting, effects - the whole deal was super shiny don't ya think? Can't wait for the sequel!

5. I'm still hanging onto the false hope that it'll do so well that FOX
decides to bring it back.

We're going to see Serenity today. Can't wait.

18. I hope someone else picks it up
I guess FOX owns the rights, though. Maybe Joss can wrest them free, though. Sci-Fi or any of the networks would do well to pick it up.

9. Nope. You'll be basically caught up in the first 10 minutes.
Joss did a good job of writing both for fans and first time viewers. You'll like the movie even having never seen an ep. However, you'll LOVE the movie if you've watched Firefly - 14 eps and not a bad one in the bunch. :)

13. My husband and I never saw Firefly
We saw the movie yesterday afternoon. We both liked the movie. I definitely think the movie stands on its own alright.

17. I think it stands pretty well on it's own,
though it might take a while to get a grasp on all the characters.

It will also make you want to watch the series, any episode of which is almost as good as the film, if a bit more slowly paced.

14. There's some death involved in the movie, but it's not overly graphic.
If she's OK with that then it's all good.

20. There's some death and talk of rape...
But I don't think it'd be bad for a kid. There's nothing graphic. There isn't even a kiss with tongue. And the bad language is actually very muted. Damn and shit and such. And I don't really remember much beyond Goddammit. Anyway...I'd take her to see it.

11. Question----
I never watched Firefly the TV show, but I want to see the movie cause I love Joss and Buffy and Angel. Would I know what's going on in the movie if I hadn't seen the TV show? Should I hold out and rent the DVDs of Firefly before seeing the movie? Thanks for the advice in advance. :)

12. Definitely see it
Edited on Sat Oct-01-05 01:31 PM by slay
I'd watch the DVD's first, but that's just me. The movie works quite well on it's own though. It catches you up pretty quickly on the important stuff and you get a good feel for the characters early on. The thing is - if you've seen the DVD's (only 14 episodes) you have more of an an attachment to the characters which makes their wild movie adventure all the more grand. Either way - it's a great flick. :)

edited for clarity

15. Watch the movie now and then go and buy the shows.
It'll definately take the 'huh?' factor out of the shows. Joss left a LOT of the show without explanation because he loves to drip information out over the seasons... and this didn't last long enough for that. The movie explains most of it.

16. I saw it last night, and it was fantastic!
I didn't quite buy the central premise (how they would "win"), but that wasn't actually that important. It was *SO* nice to see all the characters again.

Beautiful and incredibly fun film!!!

I hope it does very well!!!

Now when will I get a chance to see it again?

19. Just got home from an afternoon viewing - and I concur!
Two big Rabrrrrrr thumbs up!

A good film on its own merits, but an excellent film in terms of Firefly!!

With at least one twist I truly didn't expect.

And at times, funnier than hell!
