4. He reminds me of Homer Simpson (again):
Standing to attention in the crowd as the brave men in white uniforms parch past, during a parade in Springfield:

Homer (wiping a tear from his eye): "God bless you, you brave men!"

Lisa: "Daaad, those are Good Humor men"

Homer: "(SNIFFF) I know!"

Bush is so on the appreciating bandwagon these days, it's making me sick.

So...when will he be so ready to honour those who Serve that he pulls them out of his corporate blood war?

5. Please tell me I didn't hear him say
he served in the Nat'l Guard. I was half asleep and think I heard him say this. He has no shame at all, at all.

6. I didn't really listen to his words...but that simpering, phony concern he
gets on his face....God it would be lovely if someone could just throw a pie in his face live on camera....That would make my day!!!

8. and yet again he misuses words!
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 03:22 PM by Lisa
One of Dubya's trademarks is missing the nuances of words ... he just grabs whichever one springs to mind, and if it doesn't quite fit the context or the connotation is a bit off, he squishes it in anyway. He often uses "appreciate" instead of "congratulate" or "show our appreciation". It often comes out implying that he wants to "appreciate" someone, but can't!

I want to appreciate very much Congressman John Conyers as well, and Sander
Levin and Nick Smith from the both Republicans and Democrats.
-- Detroit, Michigan, Sep. 9, 2002

I want to appreciate Don Nickles.
-- Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Aug. 29, 2002

I want to appreciate the Senate Majority Leader, Tom Daschle, for being here
today.
-- Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Apr. 24, 2002

And this gem:

I confirmed to the prime minister that we appreciate our friendship.
-- After meeting with Prime Minister Jean Chrétien of Canada, Feb. 5,
2001
