NBC comedy "My name is Earl" kicks ass!
This is the funniest new sit-com I've seen since "All in the Family". Please, please, if you enjoy the genre at all, give this show a chance. It strongly reminds me ofthe Coen brothers movie "Raising Arizona"-which I consider a masterpiece....

4. Judging by the first episode, I think NBC is on to something
Recognize the guy who plays Earl? That's Jason Lee, aka "Azrael" from the Kevin Smith classic Dogma.

8. Great!!
I work (indirectly) for NBC, and boy it's good to hear they could have a hit again. It's been real demoralizing to go from #1 to the bottom of the list after Friends.

19. He's an excellent actor, though. Especially for a scientologist.
Tom Cruise and John Travolta have this dead zombie look in their eyes. Their range is from intense staring zombie to cattle-prodded jumpy zombie. :P I hate Scientology.

But Lee's characters are so much more interesting. If you ever listen to the DVD commentary to "An Evening with Kevin Smith," you'll probably notice what a dull, zombified person Lee seems to be in real life. That only emphasizes his talent.

20. So you're endorsing scientology?
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 09:40 PM by LiviaOlivia
because of the look of in their eyes? WTF? Kevin Smith is RC and yes I have listened to his commentaries.

Again what is your point? Your post is confusing.

Lee is amusing sometimes but not always. Why shouldn't I consider him like any Mormon missionary? Prove to me that scientologists don't have a hidden agenda, or any agenda of any kind!

22. I'm not endorsing scientology at all.
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 10:06 PM by philosophie_en_rose
I think I've posted in every anti-scientology thread posted on DU. I know people enmeshed in the cult. It's serious business.

A dead look in the eyes is common in scientologists. It's a symptom of BAD acting. I don't think much of either Tom Cruise or John Travolta as actors, usually because they can't fill the void in their stares - that Scientology stare. Giovanni Ribisi, Leah Remini, and Catherine Bell are the same.

I don't have to prove anything to you. And I don't care if you think he's like a Mormon missionary. I was simply adding my opinion that Jason Lee is a good actor that seems to have risen about the zombification that plagues others.

Plus, if you didn't notice, I slammed Jason Lee as a private individual for being boring in DVD commentaries. His characters are amusing. He's not.

Is that clear to you?

24. I think Lee sucks. Let me clearly state that he is NOT a good actor.
Good for you posting "in every anti-scientology thread". Pin a ribbon on you!!!

I still dislike Lee and suspect his motives. That's my opinion. Don't like it? Join Bush.

6. I liked it....
I like Jason Lee (despite being a scientologist who named his kid Pilot Inspector...but who am I to judge). This was a funny episode.

15. I stumbled onto this show, too - about 15 minutes into it.
Hilarious!

This is the first time I ever gave a sitcom a Season Pass on Tivo the first time I saw it.

Hope it stays funny. With the desperate and disgusting state of the world, I need all the laughs I can get.

18. Good premise, likable actors, good writing, supporting time slot
I think it will be a great success. Not only that it might start something on Karma that Pass it foward never delivered.

The principle actor is very smooth. It is all very real and I think will reflect American reality missing in most shows. When the principle character gets his prescription his brother in law talks about sharing the Vicodin which was revealing to the point of surprise.

I think they have a hit.

and after having seen it, I'd say it lived up to my expectations. I thought it was very funny. I hope they can keep up the good writing.
