Landlord Sues Restaurateurs Over Ghosts
The landlords of an Orlando entertainment complex are suing two restaurateurs for refusing to move into a renovating building because they claim it is haunted.

Subcontractors who worked there and other people have reported seeing ghosts or other apparitions, said Lynn Franklin, attorney for the restaurant owners.

"It's very serious," Franklin said Thursday. "A lot of people are corroborating having seen incidents in this location."

The $2.6 million lawsuit filed last month by the owners of the Church Street Station entertainment complex says an offer to hold an exorcism was refused.

"I asked them if these were good ghosts or bad ghosts, and if they were good ghosts why it was a problem," said David Simmons, an attorney representing the building's owners, who include boy band promoter Lou Pearlman. Simmons is also a member of the state House.

5. It was in Haverhill, MA

Bradford College, it was called. I went there my freshman year. It was a very tiny college with only about 650 students. Quite an old college - founded in 1802. In 2000 the college closed for good because it went bankrupt.

Bradford was a creepy place. I lived in the oldest dorm, Academy Hall, which was built in the 1870s. There was a general sense that something wasn't quite right, that there was something in the air lurking unseen, watching you (I'm probably starting to sound like a loon :) but it's the best way I can think of to describe the general sense of malice and gloom that pervaded the atmosphere). The rooms had extremely high ceilings and gigantic windows, which just added to the creepy atmosphere.

It was a very tiny campus. There were only two classroom buildings, both which I could see from my dorm window. There were dark, dank tunnels which connected Academy Hall to the buildings, and some students had thoughtfully taken it upon themselves to improve the aesthetics by decorating the walls with images of demons. It was no picnic walking through them by yourself at eleven o'clock at night, LOL.

Academy Hall had a main staircase and a back staircase. The back staircase was a very creepy place, and it was walled up from the third floor to the fourth floor. I later found out that a girl had committed suicide in that stairwell and in keeping with the custom of the times, the area was walled off. Bradford had many suicides, in fact, a lot for such a tiny school.

Despite the general creepiness, I only saw one ghost, thankfully, and it was before I even knew the college was haunted. A couple of weeks into the fall semester, I woke up to see someone laying right next to me, staring right at me (and yes, I went to bed alone :D). It was a man, in his late thirties-early forties, with a beard and old-fashioned "mutton chop" sideburns - he was dressed in black and looked "religious", like a minister (this is important later). Well, when I saw he was there I freaked and backed away, and he looked shocked, like he was thinking "you can see me???" and then he faded away. I just sort of shrugged it off and thought perhaps I was hallucinating or something and forgot about it.

However, two weeks later, I was in my room by myself, laying on my bed facing the wall. It was the evening, and I was listening to some music. I heard and felt a thump next to me, as though someone had pounded the mattress with their fist. Thinking it was one of my roomates trying to scare me, I looked over. No one was there. The room was completely empty. I remembered what had happened two weeks ago and fled to the common room, where my roomates were.

Even more light was shed on the situation when I learned that about 100 years ago, when Bradford was still an all-girl's school, a local priest had an affair with one of the students and got her pregnant. The priest and girl were in her dorm and they got into an argument because she wanted to keep the baby and he wanted her to get rid of it. They were standing by the window (remember the big windows I mentioned) and the story goes he either pushed her out of the window or she fell. In any case she died, and when the priest later passed away, girls started reporting that they felt someone getting into bed with them, or they woke up seeing someone next to them. And keep in mind I had no idea about any of this until after I had had my experience. Creepy, huh? :scared:

I'm sure by now you think I'm totally nuts :), but if you're interested, some ghost hunter group did an investigation on Bradford before it closed and took some very interesting pics -

8. I don't think you're nuts at all. How scary.
Are you a male or female? That ghost guy would've really scared me and I'll wager he pushed her. I had a little ghost in my rent control place (stuco duplex, built after WWII) where I lived in Santa Monica. Never saw the ghost but it seemed like it was always playing tricks on us (water coming on, bottles falling off the top of the fridge that were in the middle, kid stuff I thought)

Thanks, I'll check out website.

12. Oddly enough
the experience wasn't scary when it was happening, it was the remembering afterward. When I transferred to a new college, and thought back on my Bradford days, I was like, damn, how on earth was I able to stand living in such a creepy place for so long?! LOL. I think when you actually are going through an experience you stay completely focused on doing what you need to do to cope, and once you're removed from the situation you can actually stop and reflect on it, and realize things you couldn't see at the time.

I made it through Bradford pretty unscathed with the help of family and friends (it really does take a toll to be in an atmosphere like that, it's not healthy), but I had some friends who did not cope so well. One of my friends developed panic attacks and she could not be alone for any length of time, and another attempted suicide (thankfully he did not succeed - I will always remember when he came to my room one evening and asked if anyone had any fresh bandaids for his wrists, and I put mycetracin on his wounds and changed his bandages for him). These issues were likely present before they came to college, and the creepy atmosphere probably didn't help much and might have even exacerbated them, I think.

On the other side of the coin, there were students who loved Bradford very deeply, and were extremely upset when it was announced that the college was closing. Me, I was already planning my transfer when it was announced the college would not be open the following year. :)

4. The Ramada Inn in downtown Detroit is allegedly haunted
I read an article about it once.

Also, the Bowers Harbor Inn, a restaurant near Traverse City. I ate there once as a kid and didn't see anything, but there is allegedly a mirror that sometimes you can see the reflection of Genevive, the woman who lived there about 100 years ago. I've heard about that one in multiple sources.

My favorite is the Bell Witch of Tennesee. It scares me, because it's not a hoax-Andrew Jackson himself met the ghost and talked to it.

6. When we travel
(which is all too infrequently of late) we purposly seek out supposedly haunted hotels or B & B's. Haven't had a ghostly encounter yet. :-(

14. Have you ever visited the Lizzie Borden Bed n Breakfast
in Fall River, MA? It's supposedly haunted (of course!). You can even spend the night in the room where Mrs. Borden was killed. Not my cup of tea, but I think I'd like to make a daytime visit - there's a little museum with crime scene photos and other related paraphanalia that would be cool to see.

And if you are really looking for a freaky place, visit the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia, PA. It's extremely creepy and is one of only 2 museums in the world like it - a collection of skeletons, etc. with physical deformities/oddities. The coolest is a woman and man who were buried near a water source in soil rich with lye - so their bodies turned into soap! (If you do not have a strong stomach or get grossed out easily, I don't recommend visiting this museum, though.) :)

15. Never visited New England
although my husband is from CT and we keep talking about making a trip up there some time. I'd like to visit Fall River and Salem but the Mutter Museum sounds like a bit much. :o

They could market it being haunted and make alot of money because of it.
