An unnamed giant panda cub is seen at its first veterinary examination at San Diego Zoo August 17, 2005. The cub measures 24 centimetres and weighs 13 ounces. While veterinarians are not yet certain if the cub is male or female, they did note that it appears to be a few centimetres longer and a few grams lighter than the previous panda cub, Mei Sheng, at this age. The San Diego Zoo now has the largest population of the critically endangered giant panda outside of mainland China.
