Irony Alert: Gave Up Diet Coke, Lost Four Pounds!
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 02:06 PM by K8-EEE
OK I've been working out like a fiend as well -- but my scale was stuck before I gave up the damned Diet Coke (for political reasons, they are supporters of various and sundry evildoers including *!)

Word up to any DC-guzzling dieters out there -- replace it with water for a couple of weeks and see if you have similar results!

1. Exactly. Read "Insulin Resistant Diet" and you will find out why you lost
the weight. Artificial sweetners, though they don't add extra
calories, DO stimulate the production of insulin. Fat won't burn
in the presence of insulin.

3. Caramel Coloring clogs intestinal walls. Coke is not good for you.
But it should not be outlawed. I would only be distributed on the black market and the Cola Wars would begin to have a secondary death toll and associated crime rate.

10. It's good for cleaning dead bugs off the front of one's car.
But don't leave it on for long. ;)

17. Wow, I Never Heard That, Thanks!!
Seriously when you look up on opensecrets or whatever, everything that's killing us are big GWB supporters (junk food, fast food, Coke, Krispie Creme, etc!) The politics are the same thing -- shit like "tax relief" during a WAR goes down like dunkin' donuts with the freepers but man what a price we will pay for GWBs junk politics.

2. yup - you probably reduced your daily sodium intake
which also lets you dump a little unhealthy "water weight". If it comes off when you don't drink soda then it shouldn't be there to begin with!

4. I gave it up
and got rid of the numbness and tingling in my hands and feet. Aspartame was made by Satan! And was thrust upon us by Donald Rumsfeld, if I remember correctly.

5. Thank you for this...
I drink Diet Coke every day (and I drink tons of water too), and I work out quite a bit but just can't seem to lose the last little bit of weight (less than 20 lbs. left to go!). I'll give it a go and let you know how it goes! Makes sense to me...

9. Well, Can't Hurt To Try!
For awhile I was replacing it with Perrier water just to piss off O'Reilly (French import!) Then I was making that Good Earth iced tea which is nice and sweet/spicy without sugar or sugar subs....but now I'm getting kind of partial to H20 & lemon (have a lemon tree next door.)

It acutally is a hassle buying that stuff and lugging it in the house, LOL, one less thing to buy is GOOD! It SEEMS cheap when you guy it cuz there are always deals on it but it's not as cheap as not buying it at all, ha!

:hi:

6. As I sit here sipping my third can of the day
I see this and also find out why my fingers are always tingling.
Not to mention that no matter what I do, the scale is stuck.

Thanks guy/gals....think I'll go back and donate to DU again. It's worth it for all the things I learn here. ! :toast:

12. Good Luc k jaysunb!!
Well the crap is a little addictive I'll admit that it took a few days to get used to not having it but NOTHING like giving up cigs!!! A couple of weeks into it I don't miss it at all...I do drink coffee in the a.m. though so it's not like giving up the caffiene cold turkey, that would make it a whole lot harder I'll bet!

8. There is a theory that nutrasweet can mess with your metabolism.
So, that even while you take in less carbohydrates (calories), you will burn the remaining caloric intake slower.

Google for blaylock and excitotoxins if you want more.

11. I finally broke my DC habit a few weeks ago...
I also stopped ingesting ANYTHING with nutrasweet. That stuff messes you up bad.

14. Yuck!! No Mickey D's, LOL!!
Nope but it's kind of true that there's something about soda that's conducive to a little nibble of something with it or after it....or is that just me?

15. i gave it up too
i head one hell of a headache for 2-3 days. I also gave up caffeine too so i'm told that's where the headache came from. I feel better now and I haven't had heartburn once since i quit drinking caffeine and diet soda.

16. I'm 150 lbs. dripping wet.
I'll stick with diet drinks (not just coke; I like to drink the others).

And I'm diabetic; nothing else to drink that I like (except coffee, and can't live on that!)

19. You killed the caffeine and sodium
Makes sense. Sometimes its the little things that trigger weight loss.

Caffeine does cause you to eat more, and stimulate food cravings. Plus, at high amounts it actually lowers your metabolism.
