Leave Jimmy Hendrix Alone.........Go After Rush
So now the big story is Jimmy Hendrix and his lying about being gay to get out of military service.

Who fucking cares. Why don't they spend this much attention on Rush Limbaugh's pimply asscrack and G-Dub's Richy Rich AWOL.

1. discounted over and over again-since the beginning of the month
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0803051jimi1.html?...

The guy who wrote the book has a history here in Seattle. Not respected by anyone I know. In fact, 'reviled' is a more accurate description. IIRC, he bothered the FUCK out of Springsteen, and got many people riled when he got a load of Springsteen ticket sales canceled and a hapless Tower wage slave fired because he did not get front row seats.

An attention whore.

2. But, but, but.....
He wrote a book about Kurt Cobain. :eyes:

It's good to know that the author is a stiff. Even if it WERE true, why is it so much more important to document than many other people's discrepancies regarding military duty?

3. I hope the Hendrix estate can sue the fuck out of him
he has been a festering boil in the asscrack of the Seattle rock scene for at least 20 years, in my humble, humble opinion.

4. Young men did some very outrageous things
to get out of the draft. If this is true about Jimi Hendrix, then he would not by any means be the only one who did this. I had a couple friends who pretended to be gay, one who claimed he was a heroin addict, one who pretended to be deaf, and one who fled the country.

Some of you who are not old enough to remember Vietnam are getting a taste of what it was like now that we are fighting in another unnecessary war. If there was a draft today, what would you do to dodge it? What would you do for your loved ones to keep them from being drafted and sent to Iraq?

Smoking Gun has the documentation. Here's the quick version. He repeatedly fell asleep on duty, did not show up for duty, showed late for duty, smoked pot, and got caught masturbating.

I don't think he had to go any further than that...

10. My point was
that even if he had, it was nothing that thousands of other boys didn't do as well. It just isn't dirt that will stick.

And yes, my husband remembers that Jimi was in the military at one time.

7. At least Hendrix had the courage to volunteer for the 101st Airborne
Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 05:53 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
He claimed he broke his ankle after his 26th parachute jump and was discharged. At least he had the courage to make the grade in the 101st and to jump out of an airplane 26 times. That makes Hendrix a greater patriot than the cowardly Chimp.

And Hendrix then had the courage to express his feelings about the war in his rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, in which his wailing guitar described the "bombs bursting in air" at Woodstock, during the height of the Vietnam war. And his tune "Machine Gun":

Machine gun,
tearin' my body all apart.
Machine gun,yeah,
tearin' my body all apart.
Evil man make me kill you.
Evil man make you kill me.
Evil man make me kill you,
even though we're only famlies apart.

While some call it merely crazy conspiracy theories, there are many who question the way Hendrix died. His guitarist friend John MacLaughlin swears that Hendrix was murdered. Hendrix was neither a heroine user nor a coke user. He did marijuana and LSD. I recently heard a broadcast on Pacifica Radio that brought forth a great deal of evidence about the war against rock-and-roll waged by the FBI against figures like John Lennon and Hendrix in the late 60's. The interviewee claimed that Hendrix was murdered by the FBI, who had opened a file on him as a potential subversive in 1969. Late in his career, Hendrix was giving benefit concerts for the Chicago Seven and funneling money to political causes. He was making political statements at his concerts in favor of the Black Panthers (I know, I attended three of his concerts). There was a fear that the black community, who had previously not been exposed to his music because of its predominantly white audience, was starting to tune in. At the time, people were dying in the streets, especially black people. Hendrix was only one of several musicians being closely monitored by our government.
