OK! Here's my dumb question for the day: The word "props".....
And also the phrase: "tin foil hat"

I have a "feel" for these, but would much prefer to have exact meanings!

Please define for me! Thanks so much...

1. Props is short for propers which originally was slang for "proper respect"
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 02:11 PM by ET Awful
and other such terms (this can actually be heard as far back as Aretha's original recording of respect "just give me my propers when you get home").

Tin foil hat comes from conspiracy theorist stories of using tin foil hats to block alien brain scans :)

5. "Props" is a show of support or admiration
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 02:24 PM by rocknation
You're verbally "propping up" someone who you think deserves recognition for a job well done: "Props to those volunteers in Ohio who helped get out the vote for Paul Hackett."

"Tin foil hat" comes from the world of mental illness. A common complaint of paranoid schizophrenics is that their brains are being bombarded with invisible cosmic rays, which wearing a tinfoil hat is supposed to deflect. It means you're crossing the line between healthy skepticism and crediblity-eroding irrationality.

11. My dear Joan!
I've been seeing these used a lot recently, and I just got fed up with not knowing what they meant precisely!

So I bit the bullet, came out and exposed my pathetic ignorance...

And now I have answers...!

Thanks for coming by my silly thread...:silly:

12.  Peggy, I'm sure you've heard it said that the only silly questions
... are the ones you don't ask.

I do try to drop by your threads if I feel that I have anything worth saying (without looking foolish). I'm still catching up-to-speed on so many things.

Anything that I can learn can only be beneficial ... so thank you for asking for a clarification of terms.

14. My dear Joan!
I've heard that saying as well...I'm not entirely sure it is correct, though...

But I'd had enough! Hence, this thread...

I love talking with you, you know....

15. I love talking with you too, Peggy.
I'm making so many friends on the west coast that I may actually hop on a plane someday and fly out there. Stranger things have happened.

I live quite close to LAX...not so close as to have the planes right overhead, but close enough...

It would be a treat to have you out for a visit!

January or March

one of my house mates lived in LA for a year and she suggested that I avoid February ... because of the rainy season
