Okay, CHILD IN MOVIES RANT.
I can't belive people some time. Where's my Darwin-Chainsaw-Of-Natural-Selection?!

Mom and I went to go see 'March of the Penguins' last night and I sat right next to a family. Good idea, right?

//Sarcasm. You may all lay the Holy Schmakdown upon me right now.

So, the film starts and this kid, like five or six years old starts BABBLING NONSTOP! Never once does the mother go 'Stop it' or 'Be quiet. Settle down' and another kid from the SAME GROUP keeps on getting up to get water or popcorn or SOMETHING.

The film was great, except for the kids. You know, it's really nice how these BNP (Breeder Not Parent) thinks that their children are Mr and Miss HolierThanThou and expect other people to just PUT UP WITH THEIR SPAWN.

Grrrrr...

So mom and I begin to talk VERY LOUDLY in the bathroom about that. The girl that kept on getting up for popcorn sneered at me and left.

*Hits self with Clue-By-Four* Remind me to NEVER sit next to a family at the movies.

1. I just had a similar unhappy experience
watching Wiullie Wonka.

These three teenage girls sat behind me and kept up a conversation throughout the entire movie. Not whispering either. Just conversational speech loud enough so they could hear each other over the movie. Things have really changed.

Made me want to swear off movies for a while.

I've had that happen and I agree but be careful about posting that here. The kids-can-do-no-wrong brigade will be here shortly to put the smackdown on you.

Just forewarning you.

3. Bring it on.
The Kids brigade is probably made up of a bunch of people who were hellraisers themselves.

7. Don't worry, I'm in your corner
and to be honest, I think most of the parents here are very rational. But I've found that when there is a kids movie I really want to see I try to go during a time period when I hope parents won't be taking their kids (like the late show).

13. When I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory it was mostly adults
Especially Generation Xers like me, and the younger half of the Baby Boom generation: people who grew up with fond memories of the Willy Wonka movie.

11. I used to take my kids to movies when they were small.
They would be taken out of the movie rather quickly if they made noise, and they knew it.

I remember my dad smacking my butt when I got up too many times during a Disney movie in the 1950's.

I hate it when I have the misfortune to sit by people who babble. I have been known to stare at them if they are behind me, to tell them politely to be quiet, or to move.

Many people watch DVDs at home that they can interrupt at any time for a snack or bathroom break. That makes them think a theater is no different than their living rooms. Learn some manners, people!

4. We saw March of the Penguins last night, too
There was a family with two small children sitting in front of us. However, these kids were very well behaved -- not a peep out of them.

when they bring their brats to an "R" rated movie.

Oh can't afford a sitter? sorry but you should've thought of that before you had children.

See this may sound insensitive but it's realistic: when you have children you only exist for them you only live for them, sure you can still have fun but priority number one is that child(ren)

So basically untill you've done all the crazy things you want to do, untill you can put enough aside for a babysitter or have a trusted friend or relative to watch the kids while mommy and daddy have adult time at the show or The Plaza just don't have kids okay? it's not like having a cute pet that everyone loves to cuddle.

"But Noah what if we had kids anyway and there's nothing we can do now we're stuck!" hey look if you had kids and you can't afford to feed them I feel bad for you I'd help you if I could, but if you have kids and refuse to have just a sit down with them about the rules of proper conduct in public.

This isn't an issue of "oh poor me I can't afford to ect ect" no this is an issue of you're too fucking lazy to take the time and talk to your kids or find a sitter you think having a toddler to carry around is the same as pet bunny.

6. I have found more problems with rude adults and teenagers in theaters
A few problems like the one you mentioned, but more often it's chatty teenagers, ringing cell phones (and people talking on the cell phone in the theater), and a husband providing scene by scene commentary on the movie to his not so informed wife.

8. While seeing Willie Wonka, a baby was fussing and crying
Sure, Mom wants to see the movie too. I understand, I have two children of my own. Is it really too hard to find a babysitter or family member to take care of baby while you are out? During the movie, Mom tried to rock the baby back to sleep, but it only worked a few minutes at a time. A movie theatre with a baby room does exist in our area. Maybe the family could have gone there?

I love children, but the parents need to understand that noise from young ones or babies should not be allowed out of respect for others.

12. Plus, how much of the movie is Mom watching with a crying baby?
This is the NUMBER ONE reason I wish the movie companies would get their heads out of their asses and allow people to legally download films currently in theaters. Just so parents can watch a film without interruption, and so they don't have to bring their loud kids to bother everyone else.

I don't even buy *that* excuse, that mom/dad wants to see the film. They're not really getting to see it if every five seconds the kid is asking them something/wanting to go to the bathroom/crying.

9. I expect that at a "family" film.
Which is why I don't go to them in the theater if I can help it. I'd be a lot more pissed if that sort of thing was going on at friggin...Lord of the Rings. Oh wait, it was. :grr:

Some people are selfish. With kids, or without. Kids just happen to be louder.

I'm lucky to have a kid that likes movies (like me :loveya: ) . Even she gives kids the WTF look when they start that. Don't they actually want to see what's on the big ass screen in front of them?

10. My wife and I put up
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 07:19 PM by hobbit709
with some crap at the pizza buffet like that. The kids were at one table by themselves right behind us and the parents(both sets) were swilling beer at a table about 20 feet away. I finally asked them "if they knew how to act in a civilized manner and where are their keepers and why did they let you out of the cage"
