1. I haven't, but
heard reviews that it wasn't very good. They said it was all special effects and no plot.

I've heard horrible reviews. Even the special effects suck.

9. Not good when they asked Sean Connery where the director was...
...at the premier, and he quips "In an inshane ashylum?" (brogue added)

2. Johnny Depp ruled in Pirates of the Carribean
For what it's worth.... everyone, actually, did a great job, but Depp OWNED that movie!

I'd watch it again just to see his parts only!

5. lol
I did word that somewhat vaguely, no? :-)

I suppose I meant to say that I found that movie to be quite enjoyable, and despite great casting, sets, effects, and acting, Depp was 75% of the entertainment value...

as an actor :-)

your mileage may vary

6. Depends what you want from the movie
My thorough Hall of Shame review will be posted later this week at www.horrorview.com.

If you want to watch lots and lots and lots of mindless (and I mean really mindless) action, then sure, it'll fill the bill.

If you want3 partially literate dialogue, clearly framed fight sequences, an appreciation and understanding of the characters from the graphic novel and their literary heritage, accurate geography, or anything resembling a pleasant experience, then no, it doesn't fill the bill.

My tag line for the film:

LXG isn't a movie, it's an ordeal.

8. I saw LXG
and it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. This despite Sean Connery, who can usually save any dreck. I was unable to suspend my disbelief in the holes in the plot, the stupidity of the characters and the outrageous violations of the laws of physics. It was an awful experience.

Pirates, on the other hand, was a lot of fun. It was silly too, and the characters had an unbelievable modern view of the world, but this was worth my movie dollar far, far, far more.

10. didn't like it

Ditto to what everyone else here said....It was really predictable and unimaginative, and the Africans in the movie were treated as being rather simple and childlike (they weren't shown very often, I know, but it was still annoying). And of course, the Africans looooooved the white people in their midst. :eyes:

Oh, and I almost forgot to add--Despite all the action, the camera always seemed too close to the action, and it was kind of difficult to tell what was going on in the fights. That really sucked, considering effects and action were what the movie was all about.

11. I have a super geek co-worker that even takes time off from work...
...to catch the early afernoon showing of big budget hollywood crap.

He called it (with some help) "Contrived" and said it was like they they made a movie with the philosophy that the more shit they shove in the more people want to see it.

Which is true but they failed miserably on this one. DON"T FALL FOR THEIR CRAP!

My prediction, should you ignore my advice, is that you'll regret spending the ticket money and sell all of your kilts that you normally wear to the highland games.

Or as Dave Attell says, "For three more dollars, I could be smoking crack."

15. No.
Well, if you're in the mood for a shallow movie with caricatures of literary characters and mindless puns, this could be the movie for you.

To be fair, Capt Nemo and some of the characters are interesting, but in a rent-a-movie-night sort of way.
