Every now and then I forget why I thought disco was so lame
back in the 70s.

I tell myself, "Oh, it wasn't all that bad. You were judging it too harshly back in the day."

And then I once again hear krep like "Fly Robin Fly" by the Silver Connection. And it all comes rushing back to me.

Boy, did it suck.

12. I used to have one
That had a big Crane, or some other large bird, eating a frog, but the frog had its hands wrapped around the birds throat. The caption said "Don't Ever Give Up." People used to stop me and crack up whenever I wore that one. :)

2. "Fly Robin Fly" wasn't all that bad
The stuff that was really putrid didn't usually make it anywhere else but the discos.

A lot of it had the same set of pseudo-sexual tag lines, repeated over and over -- "you've got to feel it, feel it, baby" and "do it sweeter, sweeter, baby" and lots of clever references to oral sex, like "going down" and "takin' all your lovin' down".

There was a Star Wars disco song, too, IIRC. Now that was bad!

4. hey, I like 'Fly, Robin, Fly' and some other disco era songs as well...
I mean, certainly disco was not without it's polyester-draped uglier qualities, but looking back, there was some good music that came out of it, and it provided a cross-over for rock and funk which previously didn't exist.

Disco died a horrible death, and gave way to 80's pop rock, which, looking back, sucks a** and is of far less quality overall than disco. The bar was lowered, and bands like Mister Mister, Sheena Easton and Huey Lewis and the News replaced the Silver Connection. And that was better? ;-)

5. But there were some REAL musicians at work back then.
Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards with Chic and everybody who played in the MIGHTY Earth, Wind and Fire, Parliafunkadelicment and/or The Ohio Players knew everything about The Groove.

Hey, now, huh-huh
Hey, hey, hey, no

Fire (uh) (uh)
Fire (it's all about)(uh, uh)
Fire (woo, woo, woo)
Fire

The way you walk and talk really sets me off
To a full alarm, child, yes, it does, uh
The way you squeeze and tease, knocks to me my knees
‘Cause I'm smokin', baby, baby

The way you swerve and curve, really wrecks my nerves
And I'm so excited, child (yeah), woo, woo
The way you push, push let's me know that you're good
(you're gonna get your wish) Oh, yeah

Fire (what I said, child, ow)
Fire (uh-huh)
Got me burnin', burnin', burnin'
Got me burnin', burnin', burnin' (yeah)
Got me burnin', burnin', burnin' (yeah)

Woo...hoo...hoo...baby
Start burnin, burnin' baby
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Burnin, burnin' baby
Oh, baby

When you shake what you got, and girl, you've got a lot
You're really somethin', child, yes, you are
When you're hot you're hot, you really shoot your shot
You're dyn-o-mite, child, yeah

Well, I can tell by your game, you're gonna start a flame
Love, baby, baby
I'm not gon' choke from the smoke, got me tightenin' up my stroke
Do you feel it, girl, yeah

Got me burnin', burnin', burnin'...
