"Mind of Mencia". Does Carlos go overboard with racism and slurs?
I like Carlos Mencia but his new show is bordering racism. Racial and ethnic slurs. He may be trying to prove a point, much like Carlin does, but I could understand if certain ethnic groups complain about this show.

2. I saw the show once. I was sort of put off by his frequent reference
to "beaners". I suppose he was trying to make a point, I felt uncomfortable with it. I also thought that he was pretty rude to Muslims, repeatedly referring to them as "Ahmed" in a pretty snide and sarcastic way.

Maybe there's more to it, like I said I only saw the show once.

3. I've only seen a short segment of his,
but it was hilarious as he showed the clip of * flipping the bird at the camera. Wife and I could not believe they showed it.

4. Well, did you ever hear that Lenny Bruce bit?
"The reason I don't get hung up with, well, say, integration, is that by the time Bob Newhart is integrated, I'm bigoted. And anyway, Martin Luther King, Bayard Rustin are geniuses, the battle's won. By the way, are there any niggers here tonight?

(Outraged whisper) "What did he say? ïAre there any niggers here tonight?' Jesus Christ! Does he have to get that low for laughs? Wow! Have I ever talked about the schwarzes when the schwarzes had gone home? Or spoken about the Moulonjohns when they'd left? Or placated some Southerner by absence of voice when he ranted and raved about nigger nigger nigger?"

Are there any niggers here tonight? I know that one nigger who works here, I see him back there. Oh, there's two niggers, customers, and, ah, aha! Between those two niggers sits one kike-- man, thank God for the kike! Uh, two kikes. That's two kikes, and three niggers, and one spic. One spic-- two, three spics. One mick. One mick, one spic, one hick, thick, funcky, spunky boogey. And there's another kike. Three kikes. Three kikes, one guinea, one greaseball. Three greaseballs, two guineas. Two guineas, one hunky funky lace-curtain Irish mick. That mick spic hunky funky boogey. Two guineas plus three greaseballs and four boogies makes usually three spics. Minus two Yid spic Polack funky spunky Polacks.

AUCTIONEER: Five more niggers! Five more niggers!

GAMBLER: I pass with six niggers and eight micks and four spics.

The point? That the word's suppression gives it the power, the violence, the viciousness. If President Kennedy got on television and said, "Tonight I'd like to introduce the niggers in my cabinet,: and he yelled "nig- gerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggergigger" at every nigger he saw, "boogeyboogeyboogeyboogeyboogey,nig-gerniggerniggernigger" till nigger didn't mean anything any more, till nigger lost its meaning-- you'd never make any four-year-old "nigger" cry when he came home from school.

9. Moulonjohns?
Does he mean the Melungeons -- these guys?
melungeon.com is dedicated to bringing you information about the Melungeon Movement. Which began in 1997 at the First Union in Wise, Virginia when about one thousand people showed up at the College of Wise campus to reclaim their lost heritage. The "Melungeon Movement" is about racial and ethnic harmony. It took its name IN HONOR of the original Melungeons who were ethnically diverse but came together as ONE people to survive and live in peace and harmony. The Movement HONORS these early pioneers and they serve as a model for ethnic and racial relations.
Talk about your Lost Tribes -- they're part Indian, part Black, part Irish/Scots white, and part Jewish. Most of them live in the South. And an interesting tribe, indeed!

13. Not exactly
He meant "melanzana," which is Italian for 'eggplant,' and which is also the Italian-American way of saying 'nigger.' Get it - eggplant <nudge, nudge, wink, wink>?

The word got corrupted through the years, and now, in the street, 'melanzana' comes out as (this is pure phonetics now, on my part, since I've never seen the street version written) "mool en yawn."

5. I haven't seen it yet.

I taped an episode, just haven't got around to watching yet.

I like The Chappelle Show, so I'm guessing it probably won't bother me too much.

p.s. I'm a beaner, and I like the Cheech song "Mexican Americans" (and the Chong song-type-thing "Beaners").

6. Yeah, he's a real piece of work.
He's just not funny. He's got no material, he's got no timing, he's got no sense of what's funny.

He's trying to do racial humor like Dave Chapelle but he's fucking it up and just being a racist.

There's nothing borderline about it.

7. Well, he seems to slam everybody
including racists. Did you catch his joke about dumb-ass racists who can't tell the difference between South Asians and Arabs? It was hilarious and very right-on.

I admit, when I first saw him, all the jokes about Arabs made me uncomfortable. But now that I've seen him dis just about everybody, I'm okay with him. And I think he's hot, too!

11. Since Chappelle's Show...
...no one can ever be accused of going overboard again. Mencia works the same turf, but on a less breathtakingly offensive--and therefore less funny--scale.

So far, though, Mencia looks quite promising.

12. Nothing Dave Chappelle hasn't already done
It's just from a latino, as opposed to black, perspective. I think Mencia is extremely funny. I asm becoming a bigger fan as time goes by. However, it's very West Coast humor. Time will tell if his style translates nationwide.
