"Why do you like watching grown men fight over a ball? It's not sexy"
This is a question my girlfriend asked me in reference to my interest in NFL Games.

So football fans, why do you like watching grown men fight over a ball? Don't you know it isn't sexy? :)

1. It's a visceral, primal desire
to suddenly have civic pride, eat unhealthy foods and scream at the television for three hours every Sunday in the fall. I can't explain it. :)

4. I guess I like the strategy aspects of it.

The collisions are fun, too (of course!), but I am intrigued by a sport where the best team can easily be beaten by the worst team - IF they have the right game plan.

The unpredictability is fun, too. Will they run or pass? What formation are they lining up in? What's coming next? I mean, with other sports, where's the variety?

11. Those are the same reasons why I like it
Every play has potential to be something great.

12. You mean like...
that play the Vikes had against your Broncos a couple of years ago where Daunte heaved it up, Moss caught it, was going to get tackled to end the half, but lateralled it back to Moe Williams who ran it in for a touchdown?

;-)

Actually there was another memorable play in a Broncos-Vikings game that I was at several years ago. I think it was the last season the Broncs had their old uniforms. They were like 10-1 coming into the game, and the Vikes played 'em tough. The Bronco's go-ahead score late in the game was a tipped pass that bounced around, had the potential to be intercepted, but ended up in Ed McCaffrey's hands on the goal line as he fell in. Grrr!

So there you go, good memories for both of us!

13. Exactly
Even though that play had me screaming at the television set like :wtf:

A very memorable one is the helicopter spin by Elway in the Super Bowl, probaly the greatest moment in Colorado sports history.
I like to watch the game because it can be so unpredictable. I see atleast 1 thing new every season and it keeps me hooked. :)

14. Ooh yeah, that was a great one.
And what was so cool about it was, when he just jumped up after that hit, you could FEEL that the Broncos were going to win. "Momentum" is such a very real thing in football.

(Being a division rival of the hated Packers, I was rooting for the Broncos bigtime in that Super Bowl. Even though it meant the Vikes would lose one of their winless Super Bowl buddies.)

15. Definately
It's fun to watch for those game breaking plays that completely change the direction of the game.

6. The game is naff and the players grossly overpaid, BUT...
those uniforms are nice ad tight and the players love to pat each other on their behinds...
