It looked kinda' dead, caught in a Victor mousetrap baited with peanut butter. My wife's appreciation was great, generously given, and was received in the spirit in which it was offered.

You acn get humane mouse traps. I'm the kind who won't kill anything unless it is seriously threatening my life though, but they're really great and you don't have to kill them and dispose of the "mess" ;) You just bait the trap same as a snapping one and make sure to check the trap everyday. Then take them and let them loose in a field or neighbor's yard whom you don't like ;) Long as it's 1/4 mile from your house, they won't come back.

The snapping mousetraps are horribly inhumane and most of the time the mouse just gets severely wounded and sits there for hours/days suffering until it dies a very slow, agonizingly painful death. Maybe you don't care about that, but I tried :) just my 2 cents :)

9. I've looked into the humane traps

The trouble is the mouse problem is at our weekend cabin in West Virginia. Worst case is that the mouse would get in the trap Sunday after we leave and not be found until Friday night when we get back. I sadly had to accept the instant death route. I don't mind the mice myself (except when they get in the food), but my wife is deathly afraid of mice - she shakes for hours after seeing one...

I keep hoping she'll mellow, but it's been years now.

6. My fiancee is deathly afraid of spiders

I take care of 'em, but I refuse to kill 'em (I throw them in a plastic cup and drop them off outside). Every once in a while they get away and she gets mad.

Sucks that she's scared, but it doesn't mean a spider should die because.

I've always believed it is bad luck to kill spiders, and considering they eat gnats/mosquitoes and other equally gross bugs, I'm all for spiders! It only takes a sec to get them in a cup and throw 'em outside...no need to kill them :)
