Can we get back to what's important here at DU?

I've read through some of the posts here in the Lounge today.

My point: here we are. We have a lot to fight about. Bush just nominated a replacement for Sandra Day O'Connor on the United States Supreme Court. Who appears to be as bad as we thought. A man who is only 50 years old...who could be on the court for decades.

Karl Rove still at the White House. The DSM...plainly showing the lies this President uttered to get this country into a indefensible war with Iraq...at the cost of so many dead.

The Patriot Act about to be extended. The virtual shredding of our constitutional rights.

And yet...seeing all of this...what do we do? Attack each other. Like what happened here in the Lounge today. My God, what's more important?

We're supposed to be progressives. We're supposed to respect others. This is supposed to be a big tent. Aren't we?

We can fight. But maybe...maybe we can channel that anger into the things that are worthwhile. Not fighting amongst ourselves.

Really...can't we get back to what's important on DU?

This wasn't really about fighting each other as much as it was about fighting ideas. There have been one or two disruptors that have been piled on by the more progressive of us.

While we fight the larger fights, we pick the smaller battles, too. It's like we're lifting weights.

But I love you for what you're saying.
