14. What's "cruel"
in the context of pre-pubescence and puberty? Both my parents and I are fortunate to have lived through my puberty. At 42, I've had a chance to redeem myself (somewhat), but I was a "bad egg" there for a while.

4. When you give them everything they want
It spoils them rotten.

Seriously, eggs with a sell date of July 5 should be just fine IF:

1. You have kept them refrigerated at a proper temperature (less than 40 degrees F IIRC), and

2. You have not washed them. Eggs come coated with sodium silicate. If you wash that off, they spoil much more quickly.

8. When U crack them
if there is a strong sulfer odor pass - otherwise eat - enjoy. As an earlier post said as long as they have been refrigerated....

If U R going 2 fry them the yolks will probably break, but thats because they R not fresh. Yolks 'stand up' in fresh eggs.

12. Do the float test.
Put an egg in water. If it floats to the top that means it's spoilt. As the egg degrades it gives off gas which accumulates at one end and this is why it bobs to the top.

13. Fresh eggs sink if put in water - rotten ones float -- so do the
float test before you do the smell test.

After Sam Rotteneggers failed attempt in the teaser "Eggsactly what Happened"; to egg his least favorite band, he came up with another plan. This time he would use rotten eggs & get in & out of the concert quickly. He took 6 eggs from his fridge & put them in a box in his closet for the two months before the concert to ensure they would be really rotten. The night of the concert finally arrived and Sam placed his eggs on the kitchen counter while he looked for a suitable container for transporting them. But as he was digging through the cupboards he didn't notice his Mother putting the 6 rotten eggs into the fridge with 6 good eggs. When Sam discovered what had happened he just stared at the carton of eggs with dismay. He had no idea how to tell them apart as there was no smell or visible signs to indicate which eggs where which. Sam might have stood there all night if his sister hadn't come along & told him if he gave her $5.00 & a glass of water she'd tell him which where rotten & which where fresh. Sam was skeptical but paid up. She separated the eggs and Sam still wondering if she was right placed the eggs on the passenger seat of his car as he drove off to the concert. Unfortunately for Sam she had correctly separated the eggs as he found out the hard way when he came to an abrupt stop causing the eggs to pull a humpty dumpty on Sams floor. So how did she separate the eggs if there where no odors or visible signs?

Answer
Sam's sister knew that fresh eggs sink when put in water. But as an egg rots it produces hydrogen sulfide gas, which gets trapped inside the egg. This makes them float in water. Thus making them easy to separate by placing them in a glass of water.
