Was assaulted by 2 patients tonight and brought a man back with CPR!
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 02:12 AM by maveric
Ask me FUCKING anything! What a night!
Firstly, a lady who has psyche issues threw an 8 hour long tantrum because the facility doesn't have HBO. She's has a trachea and G-Tube. This little lady just wouldn't accept the fact that we dint get HBO. She threw a book in my face and spit at me and tried to climb out of bed (she cant walk). She was Linda Blair-like!

So while I was filing out an incident report a call came over the intercom. "Code Blue room 321". I'm on the other side of the building but my supervisor asked me to go and check it out. I run there and a 65 yr old man is on the floor, BLUE, and his head cracked open. He apparently had a heart attack, fell and hit his head on the floor. I get there and 6 nurses are standing over him DOING NOTHING! I asked if he has a pulse, breathing, SAT's??? No one said a fucking word! I checked his respirations and found none, pulse, zero, I grabbed a CPR bag and handed it to an excellent CNA who who bagged him while I did the compressions. All along the other dumbfuck nurses are gawking and doing nothing! I asked them to get me an Oxygen bottle @ 5 liters. They all just look at one another and DO FUCKING NOTHING! I asked again, Nothing! So I then yelled WOULD SOMEONE GET ME THE FUCKING OXYGEN! Which another CNA came with. Now when someone goes down like that the first thing you do is CALL 911! Did someone do that? FUCK NO!
So I'm doing compressions on this man screaming and swearing at the useless ones to either do something or get the fuck out of the room. Finally the EMT's show up and his heart just started beating. No respirations yet. The EMT's asked me to let them take over, and after some work, got the man breathing again. They rushed him to the local trauma center where he's in critical condition. Now I'm stressed and all sweaty and these FUCKING MORONS who call themselves LVN's and RN's are standing around smokin & jokin when I asked them "Whats your major fucking malfunction?" As it turned out they didn't know CPR! In CA ALL nurses, CNA'a or anyone who works at a hospital needs to be CPR certified. They just didn't want to get dirty! They knew how to do it! So now they think I'm an asshole. Oh well...

Later on another patient, who cant walk and is on a ventilator and G-Tube starts freaking out saying that he wants to get up. I say no and he proceeds to climb out of bed, hitting me in the gut, pinching me and grabbing my shirt. So its "Med-Time" for Mr. K. Ativan and morphine cocktail, which another nurse tries to give him orally and he spits it out on my shirt! I asked her why not administer the meds THROUGH HIS FUCKING G-TUBE like you are supposed to with a patient that cant swallow! While I'm scolding her Mr.K. winds up a left hook and punches his feeding stand, cutting his hand, flinging blood all over the room and on ME! OMFG! HELP MR. WIZARD!!!!!

I cant believe the quality of the nurses at my facility. They just dint give a shit half the time and that pisses me off! Lazy and incompetent! OMFG!

So here I sit in my decompression chamber having a cold beer and taking in a couple of bongs (ssshhhh, dint let the state find out I smoke weed and I'm a nurse), trying to chill out a bit.

I love nursing but at times its just too fucking much!

1. You in long-term care?
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 02:16 AM by Tallison
Edited the subject as I read your post more closely about calling 911. I'm in psych, hospice, and case management now, but all settings will generate that ocassional cluster-fuck crisis at some point or another. Sorry tonight was your turn.

but that's an entirely different thread. Do be careful.

2. Bless you. You're a nurse who gives the profession a good name.
Sadly, there are some who don't care and are only in it for the paycheck...

Enjoy that bong tonight. You earned it.

4. If someone had it in for you,
s/he could easily piece together where all this took place, and from that, who you are.

I would delete the 'objectionable' reference at the end if I were you, just to be on the safe side.

Some of the people I work with are incompetent boobs also:eyes:. It's almost easier (and less stressful) working alone than having such weiners in tow sometimes.

Enjoy your stress break. :smoke: :toast:

9. YOU....!!!
ARE AN AMAZING AMAZING PERSON!!! I CAN'T IMAGINE BEING A NURSE -- I couldn't handle it, omg, bless you. Soooo scary about the bad nurses! There is a bad nurse trade school by my house I think. I always see these really dirty and clueless people sitting around smoking by the 7/11 in the scrub gear, looking kinda dumb, and there's this big banner about "accelerated courses" etc. Jeez I would be freaked to see any of them as a patient!

10. "Accelerated Courses" = Watered down skills.
Sadly in CA the shortage is so great that more people are being pushed through those programs prematurely.
Plus they ship nurses over from the Phillipines who are not up to par either.

There are some great nurses too. I work with many of those. Unfortunately the good ones had the night off tonight.

If I were in medical trouble, I'd sure want you on my team! As for CPR, come on! I've gotten re-certified in CPR 12X, and I write about what's on TV! Yikes!
