So did she help pick the fundie and the gay guy? What is the process like, did they interview lots of people or what?

9. So what is the process like, do they put in the wanted section
looking for fundie homophobe to live in SF for a month?

I wondered if these were people that Spurlock knew. I figured that the fundie that spent a month with Muslims was a friend of his.

Interesting? What a cool job to have! Spurlock seems like he would be a blast to work with.

So any cool tidbits from the set you could share?

4. I missed the 10pm episode but saw the immediate rebroadcast
It was pretty good. They got one of those small town guys with the typical Bible-beater attitudes and stuck him in the heart of San Francisco's Castro district. He started off blatantly homophobic and full of misconceptions but at the end, while he still pretty much believed being gay was a sin per the Bible he had some significant attitude changes. He learned that gays are not as different as he'd believed and after returning home he picked up on the prejudices of his family members that he normally would have been joining in.

Is he a 100% turnaround? No, but he is definitely a changed man. He is an example of what many right-winger anti-gay people are; ignorant. When I say ignorant I don't mean stupid, I just mean uninformed and/or misinformed. They get this way by not being exposed to the truth (the guy had met perhaps two gay people in his life) and by being given false/questionable accounts of reality.

Of course hard-core fundie wing-nuts are beyond hope, but many middle of the road or moderately right people are not. Perhaps this episode put some light into their minds.

Or maybe I'm too hopeful.

6. I was filled with hope and hopelessness
He was SO REASONABLE about his positions no matter how hurtful they were...I loved his conversations with the minister...in the end, he certaily seemed more transformed with his family just with the particular language he used when sharing his pics.

10. True
Even when he was adamant he wasn't that viperish Fred Phelps type (I was so dismayed to see they gave that a$$hat airtime). He was just a misguided person with strong views. I did kind of wonder a bit about his choice of wording when he was telling his family that the City Hall opened its doors so the gay people of the city could come out and "play" once a year. Other than that, he did a good job of broaching the subject with them.

8. Is it me or did the two straight guys
come of as closet gays when they were in the bar dancing with their shirts off?

It was a good episode but the last one had more resolution at the end.

I get a kick out of that show. Fred Phelps and his little hate-group, however, are just sickening. It's depressing when you realize that there are people with so much hate out there. How could someone stand there with a sign that says "Fags Die, God Laughs" and not feel absolutely terrible about it? It is just beyond comprehension.
