What's up w/ the Fundies?
My relatives were in town this weekend. More than a few are Evangel/Fund in regards to religion. I was dreading this weekend.
Instead, all I heard was bitching about * from them. They were saying that he was a horrible president and person in general and didn't live a very Christian life. I did not prompt any of this conversation. I decided to sit back and listen.
One of my uncles is a minister in a Fundie church. He stated that many of them are angry and wish that they had never voted for him. He also said that some were starting to read about impeachment.
I won't go into the entire conversations that I overheard (too bizarre for words) but I thought that I might pass along this little nugget about them.
BTW-number 1 complaint I heard? Iraq and the fact that too many of them are worried about their children eventually having to go.

1. My husband's sister and family from Texas were here over memorial day
and they were saying more or less the same. And they were so gung ho for **** post 911!!!!
I even heard my brother in law say he voted for Kerry last year. I about died, and then I chuckled. He is lying. He did not. But now he wants everyone to think he did.

Most people are sheep. They are like vultures, too. When they smell blood, they attack. My husband and I just looked at each other and shook our heads. Later we laughed about it. Funny.

6. I was so sure that they were * supporters and then
they all stated that they voted for Kerry last election. I was really surprised.

9. I think so too.
One of them is very religious. She stated that war is murder and that * was turning our children into murderers. For all these years she has never even registered to vote. In 2004 she said that she voted for the first time (she's 60) and that she voted for Kerry. She also stated that she will be voting more often. She just thought that before she wasn't intellegent enough to make a decision about leadership but now she cannot let others make it for her.

14. My aunt, who is normally so quiet that you have to strain to
listen to her, just stated midway through the discussion that "war is murder, no matter how you look at it." She also stated that there a very few wars where it is justified and this was not one of them.
She then stated that if we don't quit warmongering and empirebuilding that the US, as a nation, will be damned to hell for all eternity by God. She sat down after that and went back to her crossstitch pillow.
(and yes, my jaw did drop.)

2. I love this quote:
"BTW-number 1 complaint I heard? Iraq and the fact that too many of them are worried about their children eventually having to go."

You should tell them that W. said there wasn't going to be a draft. Anything else is liberal media propaganda.

8. It's really funny.
One of them is in the Army and another one is in the Guards. The one in the Army joined just for college money(and they did bitch about how Pells are not keeping up w/ the cost of college). The one in the Guards is around my age and joined when he was 17. He now has a wife and 2 kids (plus one on the way). He has stated that he will not re-up.

13. I was just proud of them for actually thinking for once.
Sarcasm wouldn't have worked. And the truth would have made one of my aunts cry (she is a sweet, if confused, woman. I couldn't do that to her).

11. I thought so too.
They are realizing the truth and I guess that it hurts.
Now I do have one uncle who is rabid RW (turns out I've probably posted nasty things to him on "another" site), knows exactly what is happening and is fine w/ it. He really doesn't care-he just wants a piece of their pie, as he put it.

terrorists were so afraid of him after Nov. 2 that the rise in terror alerts stopped.

17. A couple of them are worried about that.
They were talking about reparations. Don't ask, it's just too bizarre. But they are convinced that if they don't withdraw and offer reparations to all involved than we will all go to hell.

19. I just don't know what to think of them.
Normally, they are good for a loud argument and a good laugh w/ my friends later on.
Now, they're all serious and crap. I have to wonder if they are tipping the bottle or something. This is completely out of line for them.
Of course, having their children constantly worry about Iraq might have something to do w/ it.

But you never know if a burning bush or a vision in a dream told them. (I am a Christian, but not literal like they are).

22. that's why I expected Bush to get about 15,000 votes
in the last election. Maybe we needed a candidate who was more solidly anti-war. That is certainly what I wanted. My Bush-voting co-worker could not say anything nice about Bush, only that she felt Kerry was worse.

25. So do I.
My uncle is a minister (or preacher or whatever they call them) in a Evangelical/Fundamentalist church. He just got back from mission and he stated that this was a hot topic of discussion. He said that we would all be surprised at the number of men who had changed their minds from last year.

have to talk to his father about Iraq and he only consulted God. He isn't questioning the word of God right now is he?

29. I would but he flew out yesterday.
And I prefer not to call him. I never did give him my home phone number and I know he has caller id so I'm afraid that he would get it off of there. I prefer it this way.
I have a few relatives who didn't really know where I lived at until this weekend. We are not what you would call close-knit.

They view it as a fight.
I usually just "yessum" and "no'um" my family. It's just easier that way.
The less I say, the less garbage my kid has to hear from them.
