If your boss says: "I know I threw a grenade at you last week..."

Does that count as a semi-apology?

1. depends on what comes after it.
if it was "hope you enjoyed it," -- then, no.

4. it was followed by what maybe possibly could have been considered a semi-
sheepish look (or at least some eye contact, which had previously been absent), and then there was no further reference to it.

2. Take it. That may be as close as you get to an apology.

11. That totally depends how he ends that phrase.
Good (kinda):

" . . . but the phramacy gave me the wrong prescription of anti-depressants, and I am in counselling now."
" . . . but you DID walk right through the middle of the company-wide Grenade Volleyball Tournament."

Bad:

" . . . but I threw the pin, too. You had a sporting chance."
" . . . and you look hot in that skirt."

Really Bad:

" . . . Nice dodge, sucker."

13. Yes - a very weak one - but one nonetheless
The phrase 'a grenade' rather implies that it was unwarranted, and hence wrong.

On the other hand, the weakness of the apology does mean that if you want to stay vexed with her, that's fine.

20. For some personalities, saying that would have been like having
their teeth pulled. I guess that would make it apologetic-like...

Did you say "Apology accepted?" :D

and my recommendation sticks
"working with difficult people" will help you sort out the WTF of it all.
It's a revelation wen you see the entry that aligns 100% with the freak you are dealing with.

26. Some people just can't bring themselves to apologize.
You know that stupid pride thing! But it sounds like a way of apologizing or at least understanding.

I agree with David. Acknowledgment not apology. Not even near an apology for that matter.
